It's a win for us as long as we don't get blown out. I think we could beat them. I know I would go to it and tons of Dawg fans would too. Reliant Stadium would be filled with 50,000 State fans I bet. It would give us great exposure in the Texas area which I think could be a great recruiting spot now with the addition of Texas A&M to the SEC. Also, more than likely this would be a nationally televised game like the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta. If we win the game, it would be huge for us. I just don't think there's anyway we don't play them very competitively or even beat them. I'm all for this game.

There's no way we put 50,000 in Reliant when we couldn't get 50,000 to Jacksonville two years ago. We'd be 20,000 there, maybe.

I just don't think the upside of beating OK State is greater than the downside of losing to them. If OK State is the loss that keeps us from a bowl game, it could potentially set us back a year or two recruiting wise. OM coaches would eat that **** up on the recruiting trail. I'm of the opinion to continue scheduling the best way to get to a bowl game...

That would mean we've only won 1 or 2 SEC games, we shouldn't be too upset about not making a bowl that year.

I'm all for us playing other BCS conference games, but OSU will be a tough matchup. We're going to be very young on D, especially if Autry leaves after this year.

First of all we should be pretty good next year. Second, we replace Tenn with Vandy next year. So with UK, TSUN, and Vandy on the schedule next year, we should have no problem getting 6 wins.

I agree we should start scheduling some BCS schools like maybe Kansas, Iowa State, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Colorado, Rutgers, or South Florida. I Like scheduling BCS schools but I don't think going after a consistent top 10 team is smart.

Consistent top 10 team? They finished 3rd last year with blackmon, and were in the teens in 2008 and 2010...

I agree that we should be good next year... but our weakness next year will be against their strength (our young secondary vs their passing game). I think, next year specifically, we'd be a pretty bad matchup against them.

And I'm not so sure that Vandy is going to be an easy win anymore. I really, really like their coach.

What are you talking about? They won the Big12 last year and finished 3rd in the nation.

Not sure how many fans would make the trip...

to Houston and College Station in the same year. I know I would rather go to A&M and it would be difficult to make both games.

We are in agrement that they finished #3 last year. One top ten finish doesn't make them a consistent top 10 team. They finished in the teens in '10 and '08 and unranked in '09.

So if we don't get blown out, we win AND you think 50k state fans will travel there in the same year we play at A&M?

How many state fans are in Tx?

I know there's a few in Austin, and imagine that Houston and Dallas particularly have decent Alumni bases.
I already plan on going to the aTm game next year, and would also go to Houston -- not sure if there are 50k of
us around here though -- but we would bring friends! (aggies and other msu converts).

Hell, we may be able to talk some Aggies into coming out to support us against Okie St :)

I'd love for us to win that game. You can't imagine the OU/OSU horsecrap that is constantly thrown around here. Especially since the SEC "robbed" OSU of their championship shot **. My favorite line to them though: You know what the difference b/w Miss State and OSU last year is? Miss State never lost to an unranked team.

You want to see some SEC hate? Come to Oklahoma...

And yall beat how many ranked teams last year, or this decade?

Have y'all played a game on a fri night, on the road, the night your team learns that bball coaches died in another plane crash?

Law don't go around here, lawdawg. Sorry, just watched tombstone, had to.

We have a Big 12 troll here? Welcome to the show, kid! Nothing like bringing up a loss to Chizik's old team to get a man fired up.

Want to know why we don't play on Friday nights? Because this is the SEC and we don't have to.

What exactly do you know about their passing game? A "top team" and a "great offensive system" are only proven once it is done with multiple players. At Ok St, it really hasn't been IMO. All you know is they lit up a crap defensive league, with a VERY good, mature NFL qb, and one of the best receivers to come out in a long time(actually two in a row if you consider Dez Bryant). The ENTIRE big12 last year produced the same amount of NFL drafted db's...as...ALABAMA. Not taken as high either. Both produced 3. Probably the same amount we produce this year. Sorry, but that colors me unimpressed...

OK State's recruiting is not and has not been elite. Plus, the A&M move is going to hurt Ok/Ok St's recruiting pipelines into Texas. Players that have been choosing those over A&M will now be swayed toward A&M on an increasing basis, especially when they eventually start having success. OK St's recruiting history AND current is very similar to ours. Being afraid to play them is an admission that Gundy is better at developing players than Mullen is, because he isn't recruiting any more talent.

Jackson State, Oklahoma State....no big difference

Just a couple of easy W's for The Mississippi State University before we begin the schedule for the Best Conference in the Nation.

Actually MSU is my second favorite team in the country....always has been due to family ties. I've got two of your teams hats in my closet, in fact. I will cede that I joined this board after hearing the rumors of a matchup down in Houston and I'm simply firing back at jabs to the Cowboys. If this game gets signed to contract, I'll be around to learn more about your team up until the game.

Now, clearly your team does not need the exposure and you play every game on a Saturday. Oh wait, y'all choose to play LSU on a thursday every year they play in Starkville. Just because you're in the SEC doesn't give you a pass sir. Under Mullen, MSU has contributed ever so slightly to the SEC's depth, but I wouldn't pound your chest based on your teams contributions, or your games being aired on Jefferson Pilot or whatever the hell.

Cool graphs and charts, did you take a break from chasing tail at 120 saturday night to post this? You can chart all the recruiting stars you want, but our coaches know how to spot, develop and get the most out of recruits. How many stars did Levy Adcock and Justin Blackmon have between them...I think three. Both were consensus All-American's.

The SEC didn't "rob" OSU of their shot. A loss to IOWA STATE cost OSU their shot at the title. There's no question the 2 best teams played for the title. Last year is the perfect example of why the 4-team playoff can't get here soon enough.

Well obviously, it depends on how their next QB develops, but they were 2nd in the NCAA in passing yards last year. In 2010, they were 3rd. Don't blame them because no one in their conference plays defense.

And please don't construe my "not wanting to play them" talk as if "I'm scared." I'd think we'd give them a very good game, but I don't think we'd be favored. My "not wanting to play them" talk is all about the strategy of our athletic department and how getting to bowl games is priority #1 at this state in our program. Scheduling OK State goes against that strategy.

They also had a 28 year old QB slinging the ball that they won't have now. I wouldn't be afraid to play them but I wouldn't be really crazy about scheduling them either. We will have to see how they rebound this year. Remember, they were one freak loss to Iowa State away from playing LSU in the BCSNCG last year. Iowa State got Bama in ahead of the Cowboys

Largest alumni base outside the state I think.
