Idea about preserving some of the classic LFL rigs

what if we pulled a few of the more iconic LFL rigs...i dunno....5-10 or so, cleaned them up, bolstered them a bit, and made them a permanent display out somewhere behind the 3rd base concourse or further back? That would only add to the lore and tip a cap to those that have gone before. flank it with some plaques and pics displaying the history and evolution of the LFL along with some of its notable characters. after all, it is one of the most iconic spots in all of collegiate athletics. im thinking we should do something to educate and appreciate. there is a lot of history there.

Even though its in right field:

or at least enshrine it in some way more than just a plaque.

That's an awesome idea if you ask me. I think a great place would be where those air stream trailers are sitting in right field.

Perhaps they could convert some of them into some form of concession stands for the outfield areas.

If you see in right field - they have kind of a food truck as concessions. That would be an awesome idea to use one of the rigs for concessions.

I recall back probably pre mid-90s most of the rigs were driven in place on trucks. I vividly recall walking bahind the rigs and seeing all those old trucks lined up. Now, they are all essentially trailers. I'd like to see an homage to the early LFL truck contraption era, for sure.

I like the idea, and I would add...

I think they should pour the new concrete pads for the fixed loungers so that the form, orientation and sizes of the concrete pads replicates the inconsistencies and variations between the loungers as they exist now.

In other words, instead of pouring a uniform concrete pad for all the new fixed loungers, design one that replicates the existing footprints as well as can be done.

A lot of what makes the LFL awesome is the wild variety of sizes, shapes, colors, etc. If they make all the new loungers conform to a consistent height, orientation and size, you will lose that feeling. I think they should allow for the variations in the new design.

Hey DS, can you tweet this thread to Stricklin? I think there are some good ideas here that they could feed off of.

I thought the lounges are going to be different sizes from what I could tell in the renderings.

ETA - I'm wrong

Could be...

I thought the lounges are going to be different sizes from what I could tell in the renderings.

I wasn't sure, though. Seemed like it could go either way to me from looking at the renderings. I hope so. I think you have to preserve those weird variations.

That is an awesome idea. It would only add to atmosphere to see some of these traditions enshrined in glory. Pass this along to Scott.

And most of you wonder why the rest of the country views Mississippi people as dumb *** rednecks. You have a chance to have a state of the art Facility and you still want to cling to the trailer trash mentality. Get rid of that **** out there and go with the flow of progress. And yes i am Mississippi bred but hell fire let it GO! They will not let unstructured pieces of **** stay because of Liability issues. and i don't care give a damn if this pisses any of you off because i will be one of those sitting in the new condo looking down at you degenerate bastards.

I am just joking a shrine would be nice!

Funny. I had already pressed reply and was getting ready to type and then I reread it and found your last line.

That's an awesome idea, but we could improve on it a little by keeping all 86 of them. We could display them right where they used to sit in the outfield.

That picture at the top of the pickups reminds me of some of the fondest

memories of me and my dad sitting like that off the off the 1st base line on our tailgates back in the late 1960's. I remember watching "Archie Who" Pitching against us. We were so close to the players you could almost spit on them. Does anyone remember the guys in left field lounge who used to hang the naked blowup doll with the big tits over the fence to distract the opponants players?

They should just pour concrete right over the rigs as they are today. Cement them literally in history.
