do the recruits who have signed LOIs get free from the LOI? Or do they have to stick with the school?

I'm not sure, but I think they get released. Didn't all those Memphis players get a release and then signed with Kentucky?

Found this:

The
NCAA[/i] does allow universities to
release freshmen without the penalty of a one-year transfer rule
for various reasons, and on occasion schools do just that. But more
times than not, the athlete is forced to sit out a season if he
leaves, which may be one reason why recent
NCAA[/i] statistics show the Division I
transfer rate to be less than 8 percent.

6. Mutual Release Agreement. A release procedure shall be provided in the event the institution and I mutually agree to release each other from any obligations to the NLI. If I receive a formal release, I shall not be eligible for competition at a second institution during my first academic year of residence there and shall lose one season of competition. The form must be approved by me, my parent or legal guardian, and the Director of Athletics of the insitution named above. A copyof the release form shall be filed with the conference which processes this NLI.

I want to say that the Memphis kids had it included in the LOI that if Cal left they could leave or something screwy like that (imagine that something screwy with Cal, but I digress). I think since then a lot of that has changed cause they didn't want kids negotiating aLOI.

and just like with Mullen- if we make the right hire, the recruits wont want to go anywhere else. They will appreciate having a coach that knows what the hell he is doing.

No..you sign with the school not with the coach.
But yes the university can grant a release.

But Stans will not be fired this season or before the end of the next. Sorry Everyone.. just won't happen

between Robert Kirby at Georgetown and all the neighboring SEC schools, we'll have no recruiting class left.

Not saying we shouldn't fire Stans, I'm just stating a concern. All our recruits also have relationships with the other schools. A new coach is likely starting from scratch. Salvaging recruiting could be done, but would be difficult.

with the recruiting class...so he will get one year at least with those players
Tickets are still sold out and even though he is on the downslop of his career it looks..he does still have some built up capital from his past years of winning the west (as worthless as it really is).

I believe that in the LOI's the Memphis kids signed, Coach Cal had put a clause in there allowing the kids to jump ship if he did. When I was living in Memphis, everybody was pissed at the AD for letting that happen.

If Stricklin is about results and accountability, the actions of this team should result in firing. Lack of effort, inappropriate tweeting (Renardo not only makes himself look ridiculous, he is embarrassing the university and fanbase and that is unacceptable) etc that are a direct reflection on the head coach. That being said, he still has SEC schedule to make a turn around, but if this continues as is, he needs to be fired. Recruits or not. I am not a Stanz hater per se', but I'll be damned if I am going to sit around and be embarrassed by play and actions.

Hard to gauge the fans... moving student section or separating them rather was a mistake. We will only have a sellout or two (butts in seats) based on current course.

If a school is put on probation involving a post-season ban, any players who would finish their eligibility before the ban ends are automatically released to transfer without sitting out a year.

I just don't understand this. I'm not at all familiar with this year's recruiting class. But I don't see that it makes a difference. We all see what Stans has done with the talent that's come through the program over the years. They rarely live up to the hype because he doesn't know how to coach them and, it seems more times than not, they turn into headcases and cancers on the team. Not to mention all the ones that have left early...

Not sure how there can be many answers to this one.

Recruits are not just released automatically. Their LOI is to the school, not the coach.
With that said, it is quite rare to force a recruit into staying if they dont want to. History shows(last handful of years) that programs all over the country will release a player if they dont want to stay on with the new coach.
In fact, when a school DOESNT release a player, its actually news and the school as well as new coach end up looking like total ********. See DePaul over this past summer as an example.

It is not a good idea for a school to force a player to honor that LOI if they dont want to when a new coach comes into the mix. Why would a school then want a player on the team that doesnt want to be there? And it gives the program bad press.
