Is Al still around with his BBQ wagon?
Are there any good places in Starkville?
When I was there in the 90's there was this really, really great BBQ truck called Al's. He was a skinny little fella so we of course called him Big Al's. He made his bbq sandwiches on white bread and wrapped them in aluminum foil. By the time you got home with the sandwich, it was nothing but a lump of pork surrounded by crust, the bread pretty much melted. I heard both of his kids were students at state.
His hot sauce was the most amazing thing - high vinegar, but with enough sugar to temper it, and a complex heat. My roomate and I saw him at the grocery one afternoon and followed him around trying to see what he was buying until he finally shooed us away. Man, I miss that BBQ about as much as anything else about Starkvegas.
