If Boom goes pro who becomes our "speed" back to compliment Snell?

Not really sure how fast Asim Rose is. Anyone?
King!

King or Rose. Those are the only two returning scholarship RBs (not counting Boom or Snell). Incoming freshman, Koback, is coming off a season ending leg injury. Seems most likely to redshirt.

Just watched a video of Eddie Gran talking about Snell and Rose back in February. He said that Rose is very explosive and can really catch it out of the backfield. That is another dimension that will make our offense better.

I'm inclined to assume King as well. However, Rose is bigger, so I am left asking is he even close to King on speed and agility?

Boom was a much improved runner this year to go with his speed. I'm really hoping he comes back.

How about we just beat the hell out of defenses with Snell and Rose, both are capable of breaking the big play. Have Snell and Rose pound the hell out of them and then bring King in for the change of pace every once in awhile. I still think they should look into lining King up some in the slot. He is extremely shifty and has burners.

If Boom decides to go to the NFL I think we need to sign another back. Either a capable JUCO if any are available or a HS. With Koback coming off a season ending injury he shouldn't be rushed into action. That would leave 3 scholarship RBs. Going through the gauntlet of an SEC schedule is usually not to kind to RBs.

I will understand if Boom does leave. But I for one hope he decides to stay. This offense has a chance to be scary good with Benny & Boom with a assumed much improved Johnson.

IF Boom leaves, you would still have a threesome at RB. Instead of Boom, Benny, and Jojo, You have B Snell, A J Rose, and S King. Not too shabby, with B Koback taking a RS.

There is a name that hasn't appeared in this thread and frankly I'm surprised no one has said it to this point.

Tough call between Rose and Koback (who I think will be a star based on his consistent 4.35 speed to go with his 6'0" 205-210 pound frame, and terrific elusiveness and athleticism).
All 3 will play though.

According to ESPN stats, Rose is slower than Snell. Koback and Boom are similar. If we need a burner next year, it will have to be King unless Koback is fully healthy.

Rose was used to simulate Lamar Jackson in practice leading to that game. Stoops went on record saying that they're very similar in their open field burst and their agility. Would say he's absolutely faster and more agile than Snell, but it's all good. Snell is arguably one of the best running backs in the country, just gets it done differently.
Koback should be fully healthy though. Reports are that he's ahead of schedule in his recovery and he will be arriving on campus early, so he'll be stuck with the absolutely best care, and put under some elite S&C coaches to get him in playing shape, probably before spring.

I'm anxious to see what AJ Rose brings to the running game!!! Word is he is very good at catching passes out of the backfield!!! That will certainly add a new wrinkle to our offensive thrust!!!

Not sure why everyone writes off Lynn Bowden as a possible RB. At very least he could play slot and move over to play Wildcat. Imagine preparing for that.

The coaches almost played Rose over Snell this year. Rose will be a big time contributor and will eclipse 800 scrimmage yards next year. He is different than snell and boom. Hes a slashing guy with size and very easy speed.

Boom isn't "going pro" this year. He is smart to get himself evaluated, but he will be back. No NFL draft evaluator rates Boom higher than the #25 running back in thIs draft. CBS Sports slots him at #27. That's a lot lower than Kentucky fans probably think. Just because we haven't had a 1,000 yard rusher at Kentucky in a while, doesn't mean it is rare. It isn't. Boom also has a recent injury history. All of this screams free agent for Boom. If he comes back, he will play on a better Kentucky team next year, which means higher profile. He has a lot to gain by coming back. The only risk would be a major injury, but every football player takes that risk. The running load will be shared next year with Benny and Rose, which lessens Boom's risk.

He will be back, unless he is satisfied with being a 7th round draft choice or a FA this coming April.

I have not and I have brought it up several times on a selling point to him. So when has Bowden committed to UK?

Not a debate to me. It's King fellas easy. The "too frail, too easy to bring down" refrain amuse me. He's a speed back! He's not going to break, he played high level high school ball and broke records and stood out in the spring game against big boys. He's not Pee Wee Herman. And I don't care how easy he is to pull down after he gets around the corner or bursts through a hole for 7 yards. Don't think he will be called on to fill Benny's role. Kid has talent and I'm excited about him

I think the question is whether he can improve that position for the next draft in a manner that overcomes the risk of playing another year in the SEC. If his improvement is marginal, he probably jumps, regardless of draft position.

I would think Snell gets enough compliments from the media, his coaches, and us to have to worry about having the speed back help his confidence by saying nice things about him. Doubt he can hear these compliments coming from the other back on the sideline during the games anyway.

I'd be interested in who we might get to complement his running style though.

He almost can't help but move up by coming back. We haven't seen many 1,000 yard rushers around here in recent years. But it isn't uncommon around the country. Rafael Little was the last Wildcat to do it. So some of you guys are overestimating Boom's draft position. Right now, CBS Sports has Boom ranked as the #27 running back in this NFL Draft, if he comes out now. That means 7th round or free agent. So there are a bunch of running backs with more draft value right now. So if Boom stays healthy and plays for a bowl team here next year, his draft position is bound to improve, probably significantly. OTOH, if he gets hurt, he would be a free agent, which is basically what he is now. So coming back for our 2017 season is the smart move for Boom.

I agree with this but the big question is will Boom and his father see the prudence and wisdom of it.

Interesting points. I wonder how much a great bowl game could move his draft position?
