If Cal left for UCLA

Could easily see it happening. If Cal can get the best players in the country to spend a year in Lexington, then convincing them to spend a year in Los Angeles would be child’s play. Not to mention he would blow open the only region he hasn’t recruited effectively at Kentucky. It was smart of UCLA to offer him when they did, but dumb of us to counter with a “lifetime contract.”

It wouldn't bother me much, the difference in that is, we weren't ready for Rick to leave and Cal could go now it it wouldn't bother a lot of people. The rules are different and his coaching is too, with the G-league and all of the distractions out there I don't think he would do as well as he has here.

Well he hasn’t been getting the best players in the country the last few years and that’s a fact. Which is why you see the results you see. He’s still getting a bunch of 5 starts but they’re 2nd tier and not the elite of the elite like he was getting the first several years.

He lacks significant skill at actual X’s and O’s Coaching which is why you’re seeing awful basketball especially in the beginning months of the season “just wait till March!”

So UCLA would also be getting a bunch of 10-60 rated freshman all on the same team with zero sure fire elites (Cade, Zion, Wall, AD, Simmons, RJ etc)

RP did not bother me... He was a lying scum while here. That did not suddenly happen at UL
You guys (some) think Cal is condensing to fans...RP was at least 10x worse, at UK

Granted his is not the top X and O coach...but as you said HE is not getting the elite of the elite...then no matter who the coach is; it is tough to win with such a large turnover

The great coach K could not even make the FF with the best recruiting class ever!!! is he a bad XandO coach also?

It's quite amazing. Cal can't get the best players anymore at UK. But, he will leave UK and go elsewhere and suddenly he will get the elite talent again.

It makes one wonder why he won't do that for his current employer paying him 9 mil a year.

I liked Pitino until he went to Boston, he may have lied while he was here but so has Cal, also Rick liked Kentucky boys more than Cal, I will give him that.
Their view of UK fans and the program in general is not different at all

If Cal left for UCLA and won a title, would that be worse than Pitino going to the Celtics first and then UofL?
My friend ... if you think for a moment that John Calipari will ever again be the head coach of a team that wins an NCAA Title - anywhere - then I have a piece of ocean-front property down the street from my house here in Scottsdale, AZ that I'd like to sell to you, really cheap !

I don't believe UCLA wants that losing strategy on their campus.

If Cal won the title at UCLA....it means UCLA made him get top notch assistants and they are luring john wall talent........ or he is an a hole and changed his style back to traditional basketball at UCLA but wont do it here.

The one and done can not win titles anymore .. not the way we or Duke does it. one and done is about to be 0-10 in making final fours since the rule changes after the 2015 season. the only way 1 and done can work is by 2 or 3 one and dones and the rest multi year guys staying until they are ready and using a traditional style. because one on one and iso ball does not work without elite nba talent so if we arent getting that, it makes our offense complete garbage.

thus in conclusion. Cal will never win another title no matter where he's at unless he changes and modernizes. But Cal is a narcissist ....... he wont change unless its his idea on his terms and right now he wants to die on the one and one positionless basketball hill.

I don’t care where he goes as long as he goes somewhere.

As with most people, talk is cheap until it actually happens and then they are talking out of the other side of their mouths.

IMO losing so early with that Zion team shows that the OAD model does not work.
