If contacted, do you think Hud would talk serious with the Rebs?

I always hear how MSU is Hud's dream job (like Penn State is Dan's) and that there's no way he'd go to Oxford, but rather wait on MSU's job to open up.<div>
</div><div>But there seems to be some chatter that Hud is open to thepossibilityof being the next Rebel coach.</div><div>
</div><div>Are the Rebs going to pursue him? Would he listen? Would he take it if offered?</div>

Even though coaches may have their dream jobs, they have to be realistic and take the best options for them and their families instead of waiting for a pipe dream.

and he would probably be offered something in the $1.5M-$2M per year range to go to Ole Miss. Add to that the fact that he'd be taking over a program with nowhere to go but up and I'd be saying 17 U to Sate if I were him.

might reflect what he thinks the chances are that he might get a shot at MSU in the forseeable future.

Um seems to be struggling on how to apply expectations. Some of the things limiting their bargaining power:

The way prospective coaches see the way Cutcliff was run out. The obvious questions will arrise when those same coaches try to figure out why Houston Nutt had so little success.

I think they actually can get a good coach and make a difference within 2 years to the success, but it's going to take alot of money.

Leach could be the guy, but if he has another meltdown, UM could be in for more than they bargain for. Mississippi recruiting isnt the same as Texas. Swallowing their pride and going back after tubberville might be an option, but Tubbs might not want to come back with the prospect of having a better time of it in the future in Texas.

Hud might very well be the way they need to go. They are just going to have to give him a better contract than he deserves to overcome their reputation since Cuttclilff.

I don't see it being an issue. And if he can ressurect a program that Croomish, then it would prove he has some serious coaching chops and I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I'm thinking he gets a look...and I don't think Leach has a chance.

Harvey Updyke would coach Auburn if it meant a million dollar pay raise...

There are even less D-1 programs that are in the BCS conferences. There are soon to be 14 in the SEC which has shown to be thebest football conference.

So, let's say you are coaching at a school that is not in the BCS and you are offered a job in the SEC for double (or more) of your current salary. Would you A) wait for dear ol' State to one day hire you if you CONTINUE to do well at your lesser school? or B) take an OMjob offer?

It really isa no brainer. If you want to be the best in your industry, there are aseverely limited number of jobs in said industry, one comesopen, and they wantto pay you a ton of money to work for them, then I think you do it andcheck your emotions at the door.

I talked to Hud a couple times last year. Dude genuinely hates Ole Miss. I don't think either side has interest. Money is king though, but after talking to him several times... I don't think he'd give it too much thought.

I mean, he'd think about it...

and was the head coach at Ole Miss, I'd definately take him. I don't care that if our coaches coach at Ole Miss first- if Cohen was at Ole Miss, I would have wanted him.

And like I said, I would love to say that we "lowly MSU" took their coach because he really wanted to come here. Plus, how ironic would it be that their head coach really loves MSU.

"bloodline". Since then, they seem to have gotten away from the bloodline approach, but it hasn't done them any good for any length of time.
