From MS the fastest way is I55 to I70 to I29. It's shorter in distance to go through Springfield, MO from Memphis but it's not faster.

Are you saying to avoid Springfield?

I'll be coming from Vicksburg, and the shortest route goes through there.

I've been both and the Springfield route isn't bad. Just don't plan on eating anywhere between Jonesboro and Springfield, but it's not bad.

The interstate felt much longer to me. 250ish miles from St. Louis to KC is pretty rough, and there isn't much more than a few pilots between Columbia and KC.

I prefer the Springfield route, personally, but when I drove these routes, I flew solo and I don't stop much. Throw my opinion out the window if you have kids.

I did the St. Louis to KC about 10 years ago, and not only does it seem long, there were so many potholes they were impossible to avoid. Hopefully they've been fixed. If I remember correctly, it was one of the old concrete interstates and probably had never been resurfaced since it was built.
