It’s just smart to defer. It’s the only way you have a chance to get back-to-back possessions.
I think it’s just overrated. You’re going to receive first each half. If you’re confident in your offense why not try to go up 7-0 early. Especially as bad as our defense was last year.

so I googled it & came up with this. Bottom line is slight advantage to kick opening kickoff & receive to start 2nd half.

Isn’t it true that we’ve received the opening kick 13 out of 13 games under Lebby?
Better than the game where the opposing team won the toss, deferred, and Jackie elected to play defense. Gave them the ball to start both halves.
