If I'm the Big 10, here's what I do.

1. Kick PSU out of the league.

2. Offer Notre Dame full membership and let them keep their TV contract. The Big 10 contract would besplit amongthe remaining 11 schools.

3. If Notre Dame turns it down, take Louisville. Very good basketball. Decent football. Good geographic fit. Expands the conferences footprint.

I don't see them pulling anyone from one of the other 4 major conferences. So that pretty much just leaves the Big East for them to pull from. The won't take Cincinnatti because of Ohio St. They might go for UConn, but the ACC could stop that in a second if they wanted to. Of course, the ACC could stop them from taking Louisville if it wanted to too, but I'm not sure the ACC would really want to.</p>

Didn't think that one through, did you?

The Big 10 is not as attractive as the other major conferences because that entire region of the country is in decline and has been for a long time. Nebraska left the Big 12 because of all the inequities in that conference, but Texas has been forced to cave on most of that. Plus there's just not that many Big 12 schools that would be any more attractive of a candidate than Louisville to begin with.

1) This is like asking the SEC to kick Alabama out of the SEC under similar circumstances.

Penn State has delivered the Big 10 some national titles in football; in Mafia parlance, that means when it comes to league loyalty, Penn State is a "Big 10 made man."

2) Nobody is going to stand for the Big 10 having an exclusive TV contract with NBC via a Notre Dame connection. From a pure business deal standpoint, that idea will not fly.

3) The Big 10 inviting Louisville to join the Big 10 is like the SEC inviting Southern Miss to join the SEC.

No. Kicking Ohio St. or Michigan out of the conference would be like the SEC kicking Alabama out.

2) Nobody is going to stand for the Big 10 having an exclusive TV contract with NBC via a Notre Dame connection. From a pure business deal standpoint, that idea will not fly.
Who could possibly stop them?

3) The Big 10 inviting Louisville to join the Big 10 is like the SEC inviting Southern Miss to join the SEC.
How many national titles does USM have? How many BCS bowl wins? How much revenue does USM athletics generate?

..considering the Big 10 will not kick Penn State out of the conference;

considering the Big 10 is not going to invite ND to join the Big 10 (& ND would refuse even if they did);

and considering the Big 10 asking Louisville to join is a level the Big 10 will never sink to, here is my conclusion:

Please keep your ideas confined to the Internet where they belong.

No, it's like the SEC kicking Arkansas out of the conference. They're big, but they weren't a founding member and they are replaceable.

Mafia parlance, that means when it comes to league loyalty, Penn State

Penn State won Natty's in 82 and 86, entered the Big10 in '90, won a BCS bowl in 94 and lost a BCS bowl in 09. If anything they are a "Big 10 broke man"

This is spot on.

3) The Big 10 inviting Louisville to join the Big 10 is like the SEC inviting Southern Miss to join the SEC.
No, it's like the SEC inviting Northern Illinois to join the SEC. Decent program at best that doesn't fit geographically or culturally.

Rutgers is a highly regarded academic institution that would (somewhat) bring in the NYC market. Otherwise, it's Maryland, Virginia, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, or UNC/Duke.

due to their refusing to join a conference, etc.

I possibly hate ND more than anyone else in the country.
Could not agree more. At the top of my list there of my hatred is Notre Dame and below that lies everyone else. They have been irrelevant for so very long and yet they still get all this unwarranted attention.

How could anyone stop the Big 10 from having an NBC monopoly if they did add Notre Dame? The TV contracts would be exactly the same as they are now. The only thing the Big 10 would get would be the visitors share for Notre Dame's home games in conference.

Did you seriously just compare Louisville to Northern Illinois? Really?

Those smug-*** Paterno-loving still-in-denial Penn State fans deserve to watch their beloved Nittany Lions get their asses handed to them by all the Big Ten teams, including the really crappy ones like Indiana and Minnesota, for the next 4+ years. No letting them out and getting to play mostly MAC and Sun Belt teams. If we had to go through the Crooms shitfest, they deserve nothing less.

and the MAC and Sunbelt teams will be kicking that *** too. Seriously, 2014-2017 are going to be some very, very bad years for Penn St.

head-in-the-sand types all over the message boards and other places today should have to make a trip to Columbus, East Lansing or Madison.
