Hermann stayed. Many others have stayed as well. I think that's the right way to go. They can start to gather a staff that will be recruiting hard. Main message: Watch the BCS and watch our future defense in action.
I think dave may be referring to Herman's time as the OSU OC; he accepted the Houston HC job in mid-December 2014 but stayed at OSU for the NC game in January. After that victory, he was off to Houston.
I could certainly see that if it were a couple of weeks, and/or if there were an agreement with the coach. I would think if we hired Ash next week, he would want to be here right away. Too much that could happen between now and whenever OSU plays in a bowl that could affect his success here.
Coaches usually, but not always, leave before the bowl game. By staying, Herman was the OC in FBS' first playoff with a chance to be the OC for the first National Champion crowned in that first playoff. Playing for a National Championship is a little different than playing to be the Rose Bowl champion, isn't it? I don't think we're talking about the same situation. I think the right coach will determine how much time and effort he needs to spend at RU to get the program ready to succeed.
One other consideration is timing. The dead period starts on the 14th and lasts until after the playoff. So if we hired a guy after that, there isnt a huge benefit to him starting for us right away - it probably is more beneficial to have him on TV coaching the NCG. But if you hire him this week - yes - you want him on campus NEXT weekend to talk to recruits, not fiddling away in some office in Columbus.
