If Lebby goes 5-7, which naysayers will admit

I guess it depends on how Arnett and Lebby do in that time frame too, right?

I predict that Rodriguez will win more games as a head coach from 2025 to 2029 than Lebby and Arnett will combined, but you never know.
So you’d rather take a guy who we have a body of work on that likely would average 6-6 at msu (maybe) than a risk on an up and comer?

Id rather take the risk.

and of course rich rod should win more games than Lebby. He’s in the big 12

Yes, I would rather hire a proven coach that we can reasonably expect would win at Mullen-Leach levels here than take a chance on a guy who has never been a head coach before.

Lebby in particular was a head scratcher since we all hated him from his Ole Miss years (or Baylor years...). I hope he wins, but if he doesn't and winds up getting fired, we're all going to be wondering why the hell we ever hired him in the first place.

where would we need to be in the final defensive stats this year to say maybe he'll be ok? i've made it known i'm in the wait and see crowd on Hutz AND Lebby. I would not count last year stats on Hutz as it was going to be a cluster no matter who the D-co was. But this year he has no pass. As far as Lebby goes why haven't you graded him on the offensive stats against ZA? what does he need to do to get you on board???
I'll be honest, his horrific performance last year will be hard to come back from. Talent may have been at an all time low level, but if that's the case, he should've come in and recognized that on day 1 just like Loadholdt did with the O line. Then, kick the dead weight to the curb and at least attempt to do something through the Spring portal. I don't care what he was left with... it was completely inexcusable to bring the group that we saw last year out onto the field for Week 1.

With that out of the way, I'd need to see two things from Hutzler to give me any smidge of faith in his abilities.

1) When the next worst team in the SEC is #76 in total defense, we simply cannot be outside the Top 100 again. Shave off 75 yds to at least get us to that #75-85 range

2) Regardless of where this defense ends up in the rankings, we are not going to be able to take the next step until recruiting improves significantly. If he cannot do something to boost the current '26 class and hit it big in the upcoming portal, either he or his position coaches need to be held accountable

That's reasonable. Hopefully we can shave off 75-100 yds on defense and raise offense by the same amount. Keeping DL and Qb healthy will be necessary in doing so.

You are talking about something i never claimed or used as justification.

Hutzler was hired on like December 8. He stayed until alabama lost in the playoffs. That happens all the time.

Dan Mullen was hired as the head coach on December 10 2008. He coached in the BCS game on January 8, 2009.
Dan was the coordinator. Not a position coach. Come on man. You're saying that I can't read. You can't put things together without someone spelling it out for you

Dan Mullen took over 11 nfl players.
Lebby took over 0 nfl players.
You have no idea how many we currently have (definitely no where close to 11 currently, I agree). However, How many of those were freshman. It's not like he started out with 11 guys that got drafted that year. He coached them up. It's like if Dak had gone to LSU. He's not running the cowboys offense right now.

Dan was the coordinator.l
So what?
He was coordinator that we hired as a head coach

Hutzler was an assistant we hired as a coordinator

you can’t do crap without the head coach.

if one is ok, they are both ok.
If one is bad they are both bad

On defense 5 of our front 7 were upper classmen NFL players not counting fletcher cox so you could say 6 of 7

Kyle love senior
Pernell McPhee junior
Fletcher cox freshman - ended up starting
Josh Boyd freshman
Chris white junior
KJ wright junior
Jamar Cheney senior
Charles Mitchell sophomore
Jonathan banks freshman - ended up starting that year and had a big year

Man. How dumb are you. We're comparing a DC staying vs a position coach promoted to DC.

He should have left the day he was hired as DC. They could manage. He wasn't calling plays. He needed to be in Starkville to recruit because he was walking into a disaster as we all know and all he did was make his job harder by not getting players and making it look like he sucks as a DC, which may be true.

Yeah. Coaches staying in through the playoffs is nothing. It’s not like they’re just ignoring their new job for a month. They’re wiring both jobs. The least of my criticisms of Hutzler of Croom is that they stayed with their old jobs through the season/ playoffs. Does anyone really think they would have been any better if they’d left immediately?

Apparently a couple of people in this thread do.
