I really hope we can enjoy winning without these rumors/speculations

throughout the whole season. Currently, I'm not concerned, and if he does go somewhere and we finish 10-2, it shouldn't be that hard to find another good coach willing to make 3 million a year.

I say NO.....I don't think Texas fans will want to hire the man who is responsible for giving them Manny Diaz.

Even if Dan were on the short list and he was hired, our program is much more attractive now than it was when he first got here. I have no doubts we'd be able to hire someone who would continue advancing our competitiveness. I think Mississippi State would be on the short list of a lot of D-1 coaches that we'd be very pleased with.

Just get ready for it.

Mullen will be on every short list from the NFL all the way down to pee-wee ball.

I honestly don't care about rumors

If Dan leaves- we hire Hud or Sonny Dykes at La Tech probably and we keep this train rolling. Odds are, we keep Dan.

But if he does, I wish him well and am glad it worked out for him here. We just have to make another good hire once he leaves- and we will.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not talking about the Texas speculation so you don't think I'm confused about who is in the SEC.

But I sort of thought when the Florida job opened after Dan came to state, it came out that Dan probably has a clause in his contract that keeps him from going to another SEC school. Did that turn out to be wrong or was it just speculation?

Because if he can't leave for another SEC school without a big penalty, are there really that many jobs out there that a reasonable person would want over State as Dan has shaped it?

At the start of the year, I assumed that Dan was just BSing and being quotable about "competing for championships" and Starkville as one of the best college towns in the country. As the season wears on, we'll see how plausible the first part really is, but more and more, I think that Dan really believes it. And if he really believes the first part, maybe he believes the second as well. It doesn't seem crazy to me to think he will stay around for a while as long as he is getting closer to his goals.

Don't forget about Ellis Johnson.

I try to look at it objectively, but I admit, that even I let my maroon glasses get in the way. However, I think that he really is happy here. This doesn't mean that he will never take another job. But he has seen both of his kids born and raised here, his wife loves it here (despite what Rebels may say), he really likes it here, he makes close to 3 million dollars without incentives, we have given/are giving him everything he has asked for from a facilities standpoint (Football Only Facility, Stadium Expansion, etc...)

All of those things added up, I really think he wants to stay here and it would take a Notre Dame or a USC or a Michigan or a Alabama to lure him away.

Texas feels that Mullen is beneath them.

Look for Texas to make a full throttle blitz at Nick Saban first, with a record contract on the table. Texas would at the very least make Bama pay $8-9mil/yr to keep him(at which point he would still be underpaid IMO). From there, they are probably calling John Gruden and Urban Meyer, and offering them a blank contract...

Texas can pretty much outbid anyone, Bama included. If they want Saban and money will get him, Texas will get him.

It seems to me the problem both state and ole miss have

Is that even though you can win at both places, it's always going to be harder than a lot of other places. Our budget issues , populations etc just make it harder . A hat coach can have it a lot easier at TN, Aub, and a number of other places

Texas endowment fund bought a billion dollars of gold.... and took delivery. Supposedly it's in a bank vault in New York. That's pretty strong.

Unless its strickly for money why would he go anywhere? He's in the best conference in the most competitive division. If we happen to pull out a win against Bama, we are in the NC contender discussion. As a fierce competitor himself, why we he even consider going any where else?

Saban`s ego doesn`t feed on money alone. He would go for the challenge of winning an NC at a third school and ....... well the money
