If he weren't, he would have said directly that he isn't interested in the Miami job by now. If they offer he is gone. This is one case where I would love nothing more than to be dead wrong.

gives him leverage....to get more out of State....and I for one hope we give "more" to him so he'll stay.

I think that he is in the middle of negotiating with Grasshopper and he is using the situation to his advantage. He is using it basically as a bargaining chip. On one hand I want to say that he is acting like a greedy bastard but on the other hand, if I was in his position, I would do the exact same thing.

I have a feeling the deal with Mullen and Grasshopper will be settled shortly and although it is not quick enough for us on here, I think it will not have a negative effect on recruiting or anything else to do with the team or university.

I'm fairly certain Gruden was interested in this job, too. Mullen would be a fool not to listen. I 100% disagree with the direct phrase "If they offer he is gone".

I'm interested in the Miami job, too. Doesn't mean I'm going.

He really does not need to drag this out, though. Sooner or later you do have to say no. But he probably just got contacted in the past day or so, if at all.

The infamous tweet was on Monday, then Tuesday at the Conerly ceremony he talked about how they were happy in Starkville. He said the same on Monday.

How many times this week does have to to indicate he is not interested?

The game is being played like it. Who can blame the guy to listen. Until he gets a new contract I would listen to anybody.

No, not a daily denial. He just needs to issue one that directly says he isn't interested in the Miami job.

Most people would consider a job offer if they are talking about an increase in your salary. The difference is, is the increase large enough for you to give up your current job with everything else equal? Brian Kelly stayed at Cincinnati with the promise of an upgrade in his facilities. Notre Dame came calling and UC also did not uphold their end of the bargain on the timetable of upgrades. Mullen may have more negotiatingbeing done on his contract besides just an increase in salary. Stricklin has said that an upgrade to the stadium and a strictly football facility is now being planned. Mullen may have a timetable for facilities that is being worked into his contract. There are a lot of variables that may be involved.

I have been wondering why we have not heard about the new contract. I was worried that Miami asked to speak with Mullen and Stricklin was waiting until that was over to make his new offer.

I would be more worried if he came out and said he wasn't interested. How many times has a coach said that and left anyway? Tuberville? Saban? It happens all the time. Coaches will play their cards and say no so that they can get an even better offer. So, what does Miami- who I really believe wants Jon Gruden do? They say that they are interested in another high profile coach so that Gruden doesn't completely have them by the balls and they have to pay him 6 million dollars.

I think the "thuggery culture" is a bit more perception than reality at
this point. Shannon did a lot to clean up the program while he was
there. Also, don't forget that Florida has had more players arrested
than the Cincinnati Bengals in the last few years, so he might be more
used to it than we think. I believe that a lot of things are in our
favor at this point, and that he'll stay, but I don't think this issue
carries much weight.

He's not sippin scotch at Anthony's with Shalala or anything right now. Table the freak outs for when there is official word that he has interviewed, or hell, even been contacted.

In no way was Miami in position to contact a coach. They fired Shannon Saturday night I'm sure the AD and a few upper tier school officials had talks Sunday but realistically had no time to interview or atleast compile a full list of everyone they would target. I'm sure Gruden was at the top and wednesday/tuesday they gauged interest/see what it would take. Which was obviously not going to work with both parties. If Mullen was targeted they would ask permission first then have talks with agents. Mullen would have no grounds to deny because realistically was not offered Tuesday or Wednesday.

Mullen or his agent would probably just now be contacted. So by Sunday or Monday of next week if we haven't heard from him I would be worried. He better have some story together because he's visiting his QB of the class tomorrow. Dak's visit may give us our first look at Mullen's position on this. If Dak comes out and says I'm still committed and will not be visiting LSU this weekend then rest easy my friends. He better go down there and hit a homerun because Dak in our system could be pretty scary. With him Morrow, Brassell and Singleton among others I don't know what else he could need. He may want to stick around. I know I would if I truely "love Starkville."

Translation: I am only considering two things: the flu and the bowl game. Since I am only considering those two things, I am not considering anything else, including the Miami job.

The idea with issuing denials is what happens when he is interested in a job? Does he issue a denial even when not true? Plus, he loses leverage in his current situation if he emphatically denies interest in the Miami job.

I hope Stricklin has a plan if and when Mullen leaves. No, I don't expect Mullen to leave this year barring another Meyer health problem.

...I don't know if Mullen is looking to bail ASAP, or if he wants to coach MSU until the year 2030.

But I do know this: As long as Mullen stays, every winter from now on the MSU fanbase will have to deal with rumors of Mullen leaving.

That is, of course, unless Mullen goes 4-8 next year. Then you'll have nothing to worry about for a few more years.

If his agent has not talked to them he sucks as an agent. Jimmy Sexton contacted from someone at Auburn about Nutt even before Tubbs was fired.</p>

I am thinking that it doesn't help at all to sit on the edge of your seat. Mullen is a really good coach. There will be people wanting him and no amount of worry will help.

At least, that is what I keep telling myself as I try to ignore all these threads about him leaving.

is to pay the man. If he gets up north of 2.5 (which I understand is doable at State), only a handful of programs could even consider outbidding us. <div>
</div><div>It bears notice that Stricklin said earlier this week that money would never be the reason a coach would leave MSU. I take this to mean our AD thinks we can match salary with most any program. SEC money does have it's blessings.</div><div>
</div><div>Last, if he wins, i think he'll end up eventually at a top ten program. Penn State might come open in 2 or 3 years. His wife is from the area. I think that scenario is more likely than Miami. IMO.</div>

Coaching 101 is to listen to what they have to say. Talk it over with his wife, agent, and then the MSU AD. Let them know he is happy with State but what do you have on your mind for the future. This is when we see what type of a AD / President / fan base we have. The AD says no problem with the money. I would think if we want to stay in the SEC we better figure out how to hold on to someone good or this will always be a revolving door.

The reason they don't go after any of the big boys is they have their pay up their where a change isn't necessary.
