he's already made the decision he's not coming here. in the MMQB article I posted the other day he said that it bothers him he never won a championship at RU. he could've taken the job already and said at his presser that he came home not because it's a dream job but to finish what he started. I know he wants back into the NFL and/or a chance to win a national title. In fact anyone that gets him (including us) is only getting 4-5 years. once he has an opportunity to go back he will. but, he could've come here, rebuilt RU and left on a 10 win season.

I think he takes UVA or he goes back to the NFL as a position coach, settles in and works his way back up. they all do it. McDaniels, Mangini, etc. all flamed out as HCs. they have now resurrected their careers and will both get a shot at a head job again in the next couple years.

He's not going to say anything if he's negotiating

No appeal for Greg to got to p5 school at the same level as RU. No way he ends up at VA. Zero shot.

I though Miami was supposed to announce its decision today. Has there been any news about that?

If he is rejected at Miami I think he will push to come here. I agree he will leave here for the NFL but I'm ok with that because that means he will have made us into a B1G program in the process.

I think it's quite obvious he's getting the Miami gig. They're just dotting the I's and crossing the T's on his contract. It's a good move by the U, he's still relatively young, can recruit his *** off in Florida and is a no nonsense disciplinarian. Butch Davis is an old has been, expect the announcement tonight at 8:15 on ESPN.

I don't understand why Miami is such a great job? They have no fanbase, they haven't been good for many years. I guess I get you have more of a chance of success there because the ACC coastal is so bad, but Miami being good is like 25 years ago with a brief interlude when Butch rebuilt the program in the late 90s. By the time Coker was done with it, it was crap again and has been so the last ten years. I am not saying we are better, but Miami being relevant is far from guaranteed.

I am pretty much convinced Schiano tries to get an NFL gig if he doesn't get the Miami job. If he just wanted to get back in, I'm pretty sure he'd have taken the UCF gig when it was on the table.

Until 12/2016 he can pick and chose where he wants to go and what he'll accept.
That's if anyone is interested in him as their HC
After that he won't be as choosy and he'll accept less than he would now , even take a DC position instead of going for a HC only position

I think he's gotta make a move this year. Next year he'll have been out of coaching for three years and that's an eternity.

Unless his goal is to be Patriots assistant he needs to get a job this year. No way he can sit out 4 years and get a p5 job unless it's a very low level one.

Apparently Richt is taking the Miami job, so I guess we're gonna find out one way or the other.

you honestly think that it's not schiano's job if he wants it?

It might be and it might not be. Just because a significant portion of the fanbase would like him back doesn't mean the job was offered to him.

Tell us - NOW - how badly he wants to be back, how important this would be to him, and that he'll bring us "bowl championships!"

Also, I hope he brings says he's bringing the "stump" back, FWIW.

For Schiano to come two things will have to happen,
1. Nobody else in the country wants him. (power five)
2. Nobody else wants the Rutgers job. ( decent anyway)

he's done big damage to himself - RU may be his only landing spot - he better figure that out fast

Great recruits, I would expect Miami to be in the ACC Championship next year or the coach is a failure. They can be 9-4 this year.

We appear to be getting Schiano or someone less like Mario or Golden. Mario and Golden are a greater gamble.

Sit home and collect his 3M. UVA is still open too.
Is he making that much to be an analyst on ESPiN? Because I think the Tampa Bay gravy train runs out this year or last. He needs to get back into the game and his options are running out with it now being reported Miami likes Richt and Richt's wife gave the go ahead. He better hope he lands that Virginia job but there are a lot of names for that job as well. I seriously think he and his agent have overplayed their hand and his value is not what it used to be. Another year out and his value will even diminish further.

I've said from the beginning if he doesn't end up with us, he'll be an NFL DC. Do that for a year or two and then he'll be in for all HC vacancies at both levels.

Now with Smart and Durkin (and possibly Ash) all leaving, he actually can be a college DC for a year. A hired gun of sorts, DC/Asst HC under Saban, Harbaugh, or Meyer. Do that for one year and then get back in the HC game next year when more jobs open up again.

He has no stain anymore. He can get a non power 5 job but i do not think his ego will allow that.
man, who'd have thought Greg and Ray Rice would have such trouble landing another spot?
Can we get him back and get the NCAA to let ray play his senior year?

GS was extremely overrated by the outspoken few on this board. In the real world people just remember his crash and burn in the NFL and never winning a championship at Rutgers.

If he came back I would welcome him with open arms but he doesn't want to come back.

What makes you think Greg is having trouble?

What makes you think Greg is having trouble?

well let's see. Nobody in the past couple of years has reached out and grabbed his rear end and so far this year he may have gone 0-2 at USC/UM?
His name comes up in every search and nothing materializes?
Coaches in every pro sport just seem to bounce from team to team.
And even in my corporate world if you aren't moving up you're moving out. If you are not tapped on the shoulder you are not in demand.

but I guess you're right. The apparent lack of securing a spot or closing a deal means nothing. he wasn't at all interested in coaching again.

Maybe he is just being real picky. maybe.

Lot of Schiano Haters. I think he has been reading this board for several years.

Schiano could go to work for his friend at Ohio State as DC when Ash comes to a Rutgers.

it's a shame he was the only college coach to crash and burn in the nfl...
