Two teams will have a bye then since no teams appear to be dropping down. What a messed up playoffs bracket. Should have stuck with 2018 rules...32 teams 16 split 4 rounds then state championship. Every team making it in is a joke.

I wish there was an email or something where you could ask the NCHSAA a question like this. I tried asking a question on their Facebook messenger but just as I thought nothing back.
Something like that was done in the early 80s. It was called the "Division II playoffs." Didn't last too long.
1982 was North Moore's first ever playoff trip and wound up playing SW Guilford in those 2A Division II playoffs. Mustangs lost 13-6. I still remember the fight at the end of that game.
I remember us downing the ball on the punt and running off the field and a NM player picking it up and running through the fog for a score to win the game and give them the playoff berth lol.
64 makes sense is other sports but definitely not football. About $$$

Expect a lot of teams to opt out. 32 on each side of the bracket is insane especially in 1A. At the most have 24 and give the top 8 seeds a bye if 32 is needed for 2A, 3A and 4A. Simply aren’t enough teams in 1A for it
Keep complaining and the geniuses within the nchsaa will drop enough 2a and 3a schools down to even out all classes
I am not completely sure how I feel about 64 (63 or 62) teams in playoffs. I think I would come closer to saying "its ok" if the lowest 4-6-8 seeded teams had a play-in and the rest were given byes. Mt Airy or E Randolph really do not need another 40-50-60 point win and the number lowest seeds don't need to be kicked around again either. A "play in" would give them potentially a good competitive game and something to be proud of.
On the other hand, I find it very hard to ever side with the Charter schools. No need to tell me they do not recruit out of their "boundaries". Buzzcoach said in another thread that Mt Airy should have beaten Pine Lake Prep (i think it was) last year in the playoffs. Well, we probably would have won if not for 2 factors:
1. injuries in that game took out not one qb but the 2nd one also.
2. That Charter school team was made up, in large part, of Hough and Chambers (both 4A power houses) 2nd team transfers. My daughter teaches at Lake Norman HS and helps with the AD responsibilities. I watch and follow those teams.
So I continue to say let the Charter Schools play all the sports they want, just against other schools that have full time recruiting staffs. Anyone follow Jeff McNinnus (sp) owed Lincoln Charter school and where his basketball players are from?

That would leave Tarboro with an 8-1 season if they can't find a game to replace Washington County.
It’s crazy. It wasn’t long ago WC (Plymouth) was competing for state championships and now they can’t even finish a season.
4 straight weeks without a game if y'all get a 1st round bye unless with Washington pulling out there may not be a bye.

We’d be off 10/22, 10/29, and 11/5.
Another crazy part even if the playoff bracket was 32 instead of 64 WC as of right now would still make the playoffs at #13
Only thing about the time to work all this out it's already changed like in the west 11 teams are in different spots for example #30 Avery is now #31 and #31 Highland Tech is now #27, #32 South Stanley is now #33 Winston Salem prep is now #32
Think JM is full remainder of season. Saw where they added East Chapel Hill to close the season
According to tarboro's schedule on MaxPreps South Lenoir will play us on October 29th. I'm glad we were able to find an opponent if that's the case because I really did not want us to go into the playoffs with three straight weeks without playingJM at Tarboro…

Well the good thing is we don't have to worry about making that drive since we will be playing South Lenoir at home lol
Also, the present J-M head coach used to be head coach at East Chapel Hill in 2015 & 2016. ECH would be crushed if they actually played their 4A conference schedule. Thus, this season's schedule full of 1A and 2A opponents, with the exception of crosstown rival Chapel HIll HS.

As I've said on another thread , looks like I am wrong high school ot came out with their playoff projections and they're doing 1 seed ( first automatic qualiters) and 2 seed ( second a q) and wildcards and they're giving Thomasville a 1 seed apparently as first place 1A in their split conference. I assume OT knows what they doing but NCHSAA has been as clear as mud in the rules.
OT has been wrong before.
I agree with the part of Thomasville being seeded with the #1s. The 2nd place finishers only matter if that conference has 6+ teams, and that only gets you an automatic bid to playoffs. You are still seeded with the at-large teams based on RPI.
