If this team had Hood, could be pretty good...

Really just need another 5 and a pure shooter IMO

I still think Thomas could grow into that shooter -- but he isn't there yet

considering what Hood is doing at Duke, yes. That was one transfer that made sense though.

Thought the D played hard, got a bunch of steals. Just one of those games where the opposition has a career night behind the arc.

Got to watch most of this game and I can definitely see improvement in the squad. Their biggest problem is a severe lack of talent. Sword is pretty good but we don't have anyone that makes the opposing defense shake in their sneakers. Ware is still raw as hell. There is no one that is a true offensive threat outside of Sword.

I have to give them credit for not giving up. IF we can get a couple of real offensive threats to throw in with this team down the road we might make some noise.

And someone please tell Borchert to NOT try and make a move, shoot a three or anything that causes him to try and pass or dribble. Stick to defense and rebounding kid.

What would this team look like if Steele and Lewis were on it? They both fill positions that we need- a three point shooter and another legitimate big man.

Did either end up playing anywhere this year?

From just what they bring, we need a 3 pt shooter and more low post presence. Those two satisfy those requirements.

Lewis couldn't play. He was out of eligibility and Steele is rumored to be transferring to Troy state. Couldn't leave until fall semester was over. Credit to Lewis though - he graduated.

Yep. And to respond to another poster, if Steele was still here he would be sitting on the bench redshirting because he refused to play this season.

If we limited Jalen to just that role for a few minutes a half, he would help. If we started him and played him 25+ minutes a night, he would have been a liability and those minutes are better off going to the current rotation.

I've seen nothing out of this staff in its four recruiting classes that would indicate that the severe lack of talent is going to improve anytime soon. They came in, couldn't hold Hood or Gray, and have recruited what amounts to a bunch of projects since.

I get the hustle, that's all well and good. But bad players who play hard still play bad basketball.

4 classes?

They've had 1 true class. That can't be judged yet because 2/3 of the players aren't here yet -- although that is their fault to an extent and also a cause for concern..

That's why I am withholding my judgement till I see Ray work with something more than he has now… and if those players he is getting pan out.

I have accepted that we are going to be right at .500 or below that mark for quite some time.

The thing that concerns me the most is the quotes from the basketball media about Ray are eerily similar to those I heard about Croom. I sure hope this is not the case.

The problem with the basketball team is they can't shoot the basketball. At all. The first points outside the paint didn't happen till roughly 35 minutes into the game. That can't happen. Every single high school in Indiana has atleast 2 guys that can shoot better than anyone on this team except maybe Ready but he is too short and refuses to shoot anyways. Hire a 17ing shooting coach/assistant already.

Well, from what I saw, our outside shots had a very good arc on them. And, our guys played hard. There were no fights between our guys. What do you want?

We play hard on D but don't always play good D. They were open on almost all of their threes. We did better second half.

May 2012 + Nov 2012 + May 2013 + Nov 2013 = 4.

Apparently the fact that a program can turn on a dime has flown right over your head. I'm not surprised.

So Lewis was denied a medical redshirt? Just out of curiosity, was that known before or after he was dismissed?

I get that you play the dbag jerk role on here when it comes to basketball, but even you can't believe what you just typed.

Nov12 and May13 are different signing classes? When did that happen? Those are both for the '13 class. You know that, most everyone who mildly follows basketball knows that, and yet you still post otherwise.

Ray has had 1 full signing class and the partial class when he was first hired. You know that coaches hired in March and April have to scramble and often times either take transfers or have to make do with the JUCO players and mid level HS talent that is still available so late in the recruiting process.
considering that a full class is absurd.
And calling this past Nov a class is dumb as hell too.

Be a dbag, be a jerk, but don't be both at the same time. You end up posting some really stupid stuff when you are both.

Since some of you don't understand the process, let's get back on topic. What have you seen from this staff that would indicate they can upgrade the talent level? That's what I thought.

The topic changed to if Ray has had 4 signing classes already or if you cant count.
Ends up you cant count.

I havent seen Ray make a lot of traction in recruiting yet. Once he gets to 4 actual full signing classes, we should revisit this. If he still hasnt made traction AND is not performing well on the court, then there will be an issue.

Get your smug 'some of you dont understand the process' ******** out of here. I understand the basketball recruiting process. I follow the basketball recruiting process.
If anything, someone who claims the EARLY signing period is a different signing class doesnt understand the process.

I've seen a program turn on a May recruiting class. You apparently haven't which means you may follow it, but you don't understand it.

Taking your point of view, Ray should be given four years to see if he can recruit at this level. Really? By my count, this staff has signed half of the scholarship players on the current roster in this "one" recruiting class you clowns keep talking about. And I've seen nothing out of that half that can turn a program around.

Feel free to go in another direction now.

Please dont say you are referring to UK a few years ago. I saw them turn around on a spring signing class too. All it took was hiring the best recruiter at the time, being an established legendary program, and having a damn near unprecedented 3 elite recruits still available in the spring that were heavily considering or committed to the coach's previous school but not yet signed.

That is about the most perfect of storms in the history of spring recruiting.

Reality is that what is described above is the exception to the rule. It is in the serious minority- as in its not even worth discussing since its so rare and doesnt apply.

If not UK, what are you referring to?
