I dunno what'd be worse.

That hoo fuckhead coming over here gloating until football season or walking around Nashville dealing with Vandy fans who can't handle success.

I'll be pulling for UVA. I don't care for Vandy baseball, and those Vandy fans are cocky SOBs- and while I know UVA fans are too, at least we don't play/see them on a regular basis.

Plus we recruit against Vandy a lot, so them winning the whole thing wouldn't exactly be good for us.

Vanderbilt is what we get for Polk's complacency and laziness. Those are the reasons we fell behind in the SEC in the first place. But, I know this is just a rehashing of a settled debate.

I reckon the billion dollar deal Price is likely to sign this next offseason will be used to recruit against us more than a national title will. I'm not trying to say kids don't want to win a national title... But I bet you draft status is priority #1. Especially for kids who didn't grow up in a household that cared about college baseball.

I'm pretty sure Vandy recruits kids that are clutch and have maturity. So we really don't.

Wait, so Virginia and Vanderbilt

Are a direct result of Polk??? I know we're completely responsible for Virginias success, but I had never put the pieces together about us being responsible for vandys too***

No, but we were it in SEC baseball until Polk got complacent and LSU hired Skip Bertman to fill the competitive void.

Some others may have a different opinion, but I don't think that it was so much that Polk got complacent as that other teams started trying harder and recruiting changed.

It was both. When Polk was in his prime, virtually nobody in the SEC cared about college baseball. But by 1990, the league had become a strong league. About the same time, Polk got burned out and was more concerned about fighting the NCAA than about winning baseball games, so he retired. Biggest mistake we ever made in our baseball program (even bigger than re-hiring him in 2003) was talking him out of retirement. Polk should have never coached another game at MSU after 1992.

I left Indiana Monday morning at 1 a.m. I stopped in Nashville to gas up and to stretch my legs while heading back to Mississippi. I got in Nashville around 6 in the morning. I saw some Vandy fans gasing up and heading to Omaha. I talked to them at length and told them I would be pulling for them. Great bunch of folks. There were about 7 SUV's full of them.
