If we are truly giving Flood only 1 more year - go with a Coach in Waiting

If the recent Mr. TV rumors are true and Flood is a lame duck with 1 more year, might as well go with a Coach in Waiting. If so, my choice is David Aranda at Wisconsin. I believe Aranda is going to blow up soon, as in next season (outside chance it may even be this season with all the P5 openings). We need to lock him up now. He's going to be the next hot Defensive coaching commodity. Here are his stats:

During Aranda's tenure, the Badgers have allowed an average of 10.4 points in 17 home games, which is the best mark of any FBS team at home in that time frame.

In his three years at Wisconsin, Aranda's 3-4 base defense has allowed only 16.8 points per game, trailing only Alabama (15.7) for best in the nation over that span.

Wisconsin leads the nation in total defense in the past three seasons, giving up only 289.8 yards per contest.

This season, Wisconsin ranks tied for fourth nationally in scoring defense (9.5 points), 11th in rushing defense (82.8 yards per game) and 18th in total defense (292.3 yards). Only Louisville and Michigan State entered the season allowing fewer yards per game among FBS teams since Aranda's arrival at Wisconsin in 2013.

This season, Wisconsin's held opponents to only 12.4 points per game -- best in the FBS. In 2013, they were #5 and for 2014 they were #13 (before the OSU B1G Championship game where they got crushed, they were #4).

In 2 games, we have yet to score an Offensive TD against Wisconsin.

Why would guys like that make a lateral move? On the hope that IF Flood is fired after 2016, they MIGHT be promoted?

I really think Fludd is gone, I think all these predictions that he is staying are Fludd supporters trying to change the short term narrative.

The only folks chattering are those that want him back, the reality is that those that have decided he is gone can't come out and say it because he is still under contract...if not done properly Fludd will fight for every penny he can get, that's why I think there is so much silence about his future coming from the admin. If they were totally committed to bringing him back they could've ended this discussion weeks ago.

If you have a coach in waiting it means you have a coach in going. Will never work. If you have no faith in Flood (And I don't) Get rid of him now. Remember how a "coach in waiting" went: FHJr for Waters? How did that work out?

Why would Aranda leave Wisconsin to come here, make a lateral move, and be the successor to a lame duck coach? He can get a better job than RU without having to wait a year.

Agree. It worked terribly for WVU as well, who ended up firing their HC before the coach in waiting had one game as an assistant, because the HC had one of his friends in the media try to dig up dirt in the coach in waiting.

coach in waiting rarely pans out, see TX and Muschamp and it is usually done with someone on a current staff and a successful team, that other teams are knocking down the door to get, so you do this to attempt to hold on if you love them, can't think of anyone who left a successful gig as an assistant to be an assistant (coach-in-waiting) for an unsuccessful team??????

Coach in waiting rarely works. I can't think of one but I'm sure someone on here will. Also, with so many openings what good coach is going to come to be a coach in waiting to Flood?

Coach in waiting never works out. Nor would this be way in which it happens.

What kind of lame message would that send. You want me to be the coach under the coach you are going to can but won't for a year? I'd hang up.

Having said that, the idea of a coach-in-waiting is a guy who follows on the heels of a very successful mentor/predecessor. I'm one of the guys who wants to stand pat on Flood, but I freely admit that he doesn't meet that criteria.

This seems like a moot point right now...nj.com story seems to indicate both Flood and Julie are out.
