OK, lets play a game. Lets hypothesize that Stansbury decides to leave (better this than fired, as the stigma of that is harsh). Who do we hire? Who do we look at? Lets make a discussion of what could actually happen, not another bash-Stans thread (there are plenty of those on the board). In fact, when you post your pick, try not comparing him to Stans, instead treat it like you are starting up the search yourself.

I would take a look at Steve Alford. He has coached at a high level in the Big 10, and is now with New Mexico. His salary is in a range we could surpass.

Steve Alford did less at Iowa than Stans has done at MSU. And Iowa had a hell of a lot better history in basketball when Alford took over than MSU had when Stans took over. He'd be a definite downgrade from Stans.

</div><div>His teams always lead the country in PPG. A refreshing offensive change, and it fits Byrne's style.</div><div>
</div><div>His record is actually really good when you consider that VMI is a strict military college that's very difficult to recruit.</div>

he was put in a tough situation at indiana. i think he has done well at uab. and he had demarcus cousins committed for a while (before he pulled a scotty hopson), so he probably knows the aau circuit.

I think we could get any of these as well.

Fran McCaffery - he will be a head coach at a major school one day. About to win his third straight conference title and is in the hunt for a at-large bid at Siena.

Mike Davis - a guy with Southern ties. UAB is becoming a pretty good team out of C-USA.

Kerry Rupp - had success at Utah and is doing well at Louisiana Tech.

Stan Heath and Dennis Felton went deep one year, and well, you see how that turned out. I know that was Stan Heath's first year at Akron or wherever he came from, and I dont think Felton had been at WKU too long. Bruce Pearl had been at UWM for five or so years, and had a good track record.

but Western's 4-5 in the Sun Belt.
But since tourney records are all that matters, so far Kevin McDonald has been to the NCAA tournament in every season he's been the head coach!
And they almost beat Gonzaga last year in one of the tournaments better games! Sign him up.
Besides, everyone knows the logical choice would be whoever Xavier's coach is.

Tom Jankovich at Illinois State, I also think D@A is on to something with Marshall at Wichita State...Wojo or Collins couldnt be any worse than what we have...hell, Collins could get advice from daddy as well as Coach K</p>

And most importantly, I'd trust Greg Byrne to makethe rightdecision</p>

Stans ain't going anywhere. I think you all will finish 21-10 overall and 9-7 in the SEC. Bubble team for sure. Win one in the SEC tourney like you did in 07-08 and you go dancing. Even if you don't Stans is still around next year unless he decides he would rather do something else.
