Mike Davis is not a bad coach. He got fired b/c the AD at UAB just hated his guts..and UAB was in a rebuilding year. Davis have UAB 4 20+ win seasons in a row in 6 years and IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED THERE BEFORE. Even Gene Bartow didn't do that.

Davis has been fired twice and couldn't survive at a program with as much history and resources as any, Indiana. It is really down to Prohm and he has only one year as a head coach. Stans Jones hasn't been interviewed for any job so if these three coach mentions are final choices, we are in deep doo doo.

He had the 2 bad years at Indiana, but appeared to have them back on track when he was fired, then he's done very well at UAB until this year.

I think Ricky (Rodney's Dad) and Davis played ball somewhere together. So, if there is any truth to the rumor that Rodney is considering a transfer, then I suspect a Davis hire would influence his decision about transferring.

I heard Davis speak a few years ago and was impressed. But, I have no idea how good of a coach he is.

Hiring Davis would be as if another school hired Stansbury. He had Bender, outlaw, and Monta Ellis committed.

Coach34 is right, this is the guy that I know I want MSU to hire.

If you think Im wrong, go ask on Peegs.com on rivals about Mike Davis. I think you will find that most IU fans don't understand why he was fired.

Cousins and Bledsoe applied to the school and got turned down- they wouldnt accept their transcripts- so they went to Kentucky

Stansbury's guys just committed somewhere until the draft (well, not Bender- but the other two did)

at Indiana, who was a douche by the way, then proceeded to take UeffingAB to the most 20 win seasons over a six year period that they've ever had. Ever. He can coach. And recruit.

As the supporter of a CUSA school that has competed against Davis, I will tell you that he is a total gutless wimp. After USM beat him in their first meeting against UAB this year, Davis said that his team had just played the top three teams in CUSA and even though they lost to all three, they "should" have won all three. He is a joke. I have too much respect for MSU athletics to think you guys would even give this tool an interview.

he pointed out that UAB only has 3 losing seasons in 30 plus years of playing basketball, Davis has 2 of them.

He also reminded me that unlike what Coach said, Demarcus Cousins didn't have academic issues. He wanted to know that if Mike Davis left for another job, he would be guaranteed a release from his scholarship, going so far as to demand that the letter of intent be altered to include this clause. Obviously UAB balked, and the rest is history. But he was academically eligible to play. Bledsoe's grades were questionable.

I have little doubt Stans would have done a good job if he'd taken the Clemson job when he had the chance. But he wasn't going to do anything at MSU. Davis has never been at the top of my list, but he wouldn't be a bad hire. He coached Indiana to what is still the best season they've had since 1981 and he coached UAB to their best season since 1982.

won the National Championship in 1987. Remember Keith Smart making the shot? They also had a year around 1992 with Alan Henderson, Calbert Cheney,Damon Bailey where they were #1 most of the season. Torn up knee by Henderson right before the tournament most likely cost them another title that year. That team was WAY better than the fluke Final Four team Davis lucked into. He's a 17ing terrible coach and a tremendous prick taboot.

Coaches say that all the time. Our coach said that all year. I bet most coaches say that about most close losses.

<div>In a three-game stretch, UAB...</div><div>
</div>- lost by three points at home against Memphis. They were leading at halftime and with six minutes left but couldn't close the deal. Had a chance to tie in the waning seconds, missed a three. <div>
</div><div>- lost by two points at home against Marshall. They were in control much of that game but couldn't close the deal in that one either. Led 51-42 with 10 minutes left, but Marshall went on a 14-2 run to go in front. UAB retook the lead with a couple of minutes left, but they didn't score again after that, and Marshall won it thanks to a three-point play in the last minute. </div><div>
</div><div>- lost a lead in the last minute in a four-point loss at USM. </div><div>
</div><div>They were in position to win all three games, so he wasn't speaking untruthfully. </div><div>
</div><div>Getting back to the thread topic, I wouldn't want him as coach. He's not a bad coach at all, but it'd be a bit strange to hire someone who's just been fired at UAB. Hard to see him being a candidate, even if someone is saying he is. </div>

As a UAB fan and former MSU student, I think Davis could do well at State. UAB's academic restrictions killed his recruiting style.<div>
</div><div>He could rack up the small wins though and never seemed to win the big ones.</div>
