If we win on Saturday against Arkansas...

Lebby will be 5-4 after 9 games in year 2. The same record as 2021 after 9 games. That was Year 2 for Mike Leach.
At that point in 2021, Leach had wins over #15 Texas A&M and #12 Kentucky. Got destroyed by #5 Alabama. Also had losses to unranked Memphis, LSU, and Arkansas. We led Memphis until the 3rd quarter. LSU was never really close. Had Arkansas beat until a TD with 21 seconds left.

Is this apples and oranges? Yep. But apples and potatoes? I don't think so.

If we win Saturday in Fayetteville, I think the "Fire Lebby" threads are basically done for another 10 months. I still think we will end up firing him at some point in the 2020s, but it would at least be some inkling of hope that he can get it done here.

I’m not totally sure what to expect TBH. Both teams have MAJOR issues when it comes to closing games. I am pretty sure State and Arkansas by themselves have been responsible for about 80% of the choke jobs in college football this season.

Green is very dynamic but also has been turnover prone and we’ve been able to pick off passes pretty well this year. They are a potent offense but really struggle on defense. Auburn beat them because they ran it down their throat and forced three interceptions, including a big pick six late. Auburn also did a good job of stopping the run. I’m not sure we are talented enough to stop it as well as Auburn did, but I think it’s pretty clear the focus needs to be limit their running game and make a volatile passer beat you through the air. Auburn kept them off the field period, the Hogs only ran 45 plays to Auburn’s 70 and Auburn dominated TOP.

I could see us winning and there may be a path where Arkansas has laid down at 2-6 and we win handily. But obviously it’s hard to trust us right now, and I don’t blame anyone who doesn‘t. We are going to be a slight underdog going in and this game feels pretty close to a pick em, IMO.

If we win I will be back on board. What I am afraid of happening is the team may quit after what just happened.
I mean they didn't quit after what happened at Florida which was a markedly worse way to lose. Theres a bunch of things to point to and blame to go around for the collapse this week.

Other than the first Texsa play of the game, our defense has gotten off the bus pretty well against everyone in the first quarter. Now we may collapse late again, but I don't think we'll show up as having quit.

If you want to fire him and an Arkansas win changes your mind, you are as emotional and irrational as a teenage girl. He’s getting a 3rd year. Period. He will sink or swim based on if he can show improvement from this year to next.
I don’t want to fire him, because I think that road ends badly for us. I have never been this frustrated with a coach. Croom was awful. Slow joe was awful. Arnett was awful. With all of them it was blatantly obvious. Our team is so much better than last year it’s not even funny. But dear god the late game coaching decisions are horrendous

I don't know and we shall see. I'm thinking we have been playing hard and so close but no cigar. If we were getting blown out I would say yes, also I think we will be able to run the ball which should help. Playing away is a problem I think, gotta contain their QB, that is the key.

First of all you are mighty optimistic assuming we will have five wins after this Sat. Secondly, It is more than just the losses. You can compare one coach or one season to another but people are people. There are reasons why it is viewed differently. Primarily, It is HOW we are losing. Three lost with 4th quarter leads. Two straight straight that were essentially won and squandered away due to so many of the most stupid self inflicted errors imaginable. That is poison to a fanbase and especially one that has suffered as much as this one.

It’s because 15 million of NIL dollars was injected into the program and bought a lot better players, doesn’t have that much to do with Lebby, the roster was upgraded.

Problem for your narrative is that Leach went the equivalent of 6-6 with a bowl game in his first season. And you have to play the whole season to compare, not just 75% of it.

If it’s too early to compare, then it’s probably too early to decide we need to fire the coach?

100%. Only the nimrods are calling for him to be fired. But that heat get ratched up every loss that we incur while barreling to 4-8.

I will be shocked if we can score enough to win at Arkansas. Our offense & special teams will have to be really good because Arkansas will score at least 30. Arkansas is horrible on defense but we continuously shoot ourselves in the foot offensively.
