If you could steal ONE player from another B1G team...

I'll admit it, the board content is not really enough for me to get through to the Wisconsin game and with about 27 more hours to go, I was curious, (major hypothetical here, so please don't waste your time responding "but we can't") if Nebraska could grab one current player from another team in conference who would you want to get?

Is it a position that you feel Nebraska is lacking, or is it simply an upgrade at a position that may already be considered a strength?

To me, Nebraska's wide receivers are already dynamite, so I probably wouldn't go there. I would guess we'll see some O-line responses, but curious if people would want the conference's best RB? Maybe QB? D-linemen?

Besides having everyone healthy, I'd like the conference's best defensive end (weak side)

Not one of our weak spots, but I would take Jabrill Peppers.

Edit: I failed to give my reasoning. He can play so many positions, and plays well, injuries become less of a factor. Also, unless there is Suh type, dominant player, I don't see us stepping up a tier in our gameplay.

Not really. It's the porous o-line that doesn't give him the time. Not saying that Barret is not better. It's just that TA is not the worst position player on the team.
I understand issues up front and not whitewashing those. Give me a competent QB that can get me out of bad plays and who can throw with better accuracy and these OL issues are less noticeable. We have bad QB play for the better part of a decade and we are so desensitized to it.

I disagree that Tommy is as bad as you say. But it's your pick that you think will best improve the team.

With the way our offensive line has played last week, most plays are bad plays right now. :) I hope they make me eat my words this weekend, but when you see the issues we had against a not-very-good Purdue front 7, and you see the number of times we missed assignments or couldn't make the blocks that were in front of us, it makes me wonder how much difference a QB would make.

I 100% agree with your last sentence. There are things we don't see on TV that show up on the inside view of the tape - missed opportunities in the form of bad throws and not seeing guys. It seems like a month ago that we were saved by a YOLO bomb where we benefited from two DBs running into each other and falling down. If we don't make that play, I don't know if we hold Indiana off after we punt. I also would like to have a quarterback that can recognize what he sees in front of him pre-snap and have the trust of the OC to change plays at the LOS based on film keys. I don't think we're doing that, and I have no clue if it's in the plans. I hope it is.

To answer the question, I would take Jerald Foster with two good MCLs. That's who I want. Speaking of injuries, I never heard what the diagnosis was on Cethan Carters elbow. Was it a break, dislocation, ligament tear, something else?

Great question, OP.

Couldn't choose just one, so I came up with four (in order):

A- Elfein, OL, OSU
B- McDowell, DL, MSU
C- Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
D- Jabrill Peppers, DB/LB/WR, UM

OL Pat Elfein, Ohio State. A strong, powerful blocker, Elfin could have turned pro and been an early-round pick in April but is back to anchor a rebuilt Buckeye front.

I figure thats where we need the most help

Dawuane Smoot from Illinois

I agree that OL is where help is most needed but i think adding smoot would improve the team overall the most. Defense would be very strong if you add him.

If anyone answers anything but QB, they are missing the point. JT Barrett would keep our offense rolling.
Barrett is a great athlete but his skills would be underutilized with Riley and Langsdorf and I just don't think you would see the bump you want.

Riley has stated he's never had a true dual threat QB, didn't know how to use him and it took all of the 2015 season to really embrace a mobile QB. I do believe Riley is on board with the benefits but not so sure on Langsdorf.

The dual threat QB is less my worry. A QB who makes smart decisions and who doesn't throw up YOLO-bombs and can hit timing patterns is huge. Langsdorf would kill it with a QB that can do those things. Football has become about QB play, which is why when we have good Tommy we have a great chance to win almost every game, but when we see a good QB against us and we have bad Tommy, we get rolled.

Sure, there are some other great players out there but give me Tom Brady before I worry about the guys protecting him. They just have to give him enough time to throw it.

I haven't seen us get rolled with Tommy at QB under Coach Riley. Losing is not the same as getting rolled. Getting rolled was a specialty of Pelini.

If you're going QB, you should pick Blough from Purdue.... Seriously.
Agreed.

It's the most important position by far. Unless there is a STUD rb or wr you don't even consider another position .

If someone asked you that for baseball you go pitcher. Same reason. The position is just that important .
