If you want to know why our secondary is so bad...

I just went and looked back at scout to see how our defensive backs were ranked and what their offers looked like coming out of high school and I now know why we are so terrible....

Corners:
Marcus Washington: 2 star, no major other BCS offers (offered b/c he was a track star in high school)
Damien Anderson: 2 star, other offer: USM (played qb in high school)
Maurice Langston: 4 star, other offers: kentucky, memphis, USM, etc... (has not played DB since high school and only was offered by arkansas state then)
Corey Broomfield: 2 star, other offers: Cincinnati and Iowa Stae
Louis Watson: 2 star, other offers: colorado, houston, louisville, etc...
Johnathon Banks: 3 star, other offers: none (played qb in hs)

Safties:
Zack Smith: 2 star, other offers: Samford and UAB (played qb in high school)
Wade Bonner: 3 star, other offers: Arkansas and memphis (came in as a rb)
Charles Mitchell: 4 star, other offers: Michigan, Ole Miss, Nebraska, etc...
Cameron Lawerence: 3 star, other offers: Duke, oklahoma state, USM
Nikoe Whitley: 3 star, other offers: Ole Miss, USM (reshirting)

I do not put too much stock into stars but I do in offers. Only 1 of our 4 starters had other SEC offers. That is really sad. The other problem I see is that many of these guys did not play defensive back in high school. I understand that usually the teams best athlete plays qb in high school but I would love for us to recruit some true corners. The only true db we really have on our team right now is Charles Mitchell and he is not bad (I dont think he understands where his zone is when we run a zone yet but is by far our best athlete). And the bad thing is the future recruits are not looking much better. We have 2 commited cb and one S:

Jameon Lewis: 2 star, no other offers (plays qb in hs)
Jamerson Love: Not evaluated yet, other offers: USM and Arkansas State (plays rb in hs although i think he will be good)
Michael Carr: 3 starts, other offers: none but that is probably b/c he commited so early

We need to recruit some juco corners and safties (not wr's like langston) and then try to recruit some some true hs corners and get the redshirted and ready to take over after the jucos. And I also think the scheme has to be changed so I am not blaming this all on our terrible lack of talent.

It's like that for the rest of the team. Just about each position breaks down that way. Just compare. RB's maybe the only one that does not.

Zach Smith wouldn't start at UAB, maybe Samford and I mean maybe - that 53yrd pass that was caught at a semi-crucial part of the game was ridiculous

It's a miracle we were able to stay within 4 TD's of LSU or GT with that pile of **** talent Croomz left us with.
