And you wake up to read this statement by your coach: "We had two seniors in a row there at the end," Cohen said. "Those at-bats are four years in the making. It's what you dream of. I feel horrible for the two of them."

You better be at practice early today doing some T work. Gut check time fellas.

This maybe German to you guys.

I don't think that would motivate me as a senior. I would be more inclined to take a big F U attitude toward the coach.

....we just got swept at home by SELA.

I've said before that I like Cohen better than any other coach we've ever hired from a personality and attitude standpoint. I think he's great. That said, he's got some ground to make up after lats weekend, and it would be nice if you would quit being so defensive about it.

sometimes the harder you try, the worse you do. The 2 seniors already know they screwed up. They don't need the coach calling them out in the media.

but what he did say, in my opinion, was the straight truth.

What type of criticism that motivates the players is the coach's job to find out. Guess we'll see which way is accurate is the next week or so.

Did Ron Polk? This is not an isolated incident. It's a pattern.

Polk certainly had his faults especially in the recruiting/scholarship managment arena, but all of his former players would run through a brick wall for him. Would any of Cohen's players say the same thing?

I named our former coach and one of the most respected managers in the game.

Glad to know you like Guillen though. That isn't random info at all.

It's just too different a dynamic comparing a pro coach to a college coach when describing a coach/mgr trying to get the best performance out of a player. They are playing for different things, and have too different situations surrounding them, such as free agency vs. transfer, salary vs scholarship availability, and World series championships vs high level exposure.

Ron Polk was not random, and my comment was meant to be tongue in cheek. That's great that our players would run through walls for Polk, but the ones after 2001 weren't very good.

And how can you not like Guillen (not saying you don't)? Dude is hilarious and tells it like it is, and is also one of the biggest defenders of his team assuming the effort is there.

and I would love to play for him. Everyone on that team knows he's got their back. Cohen? I'm not sure.

if they make a minor league team.

Good coaches know which players need to be left alone and which ones need to be called out in public. It's that psychological aspect of a particular team that most of us have little to no idea about, but is a huge part of a coach's job. (Duh!)

If Coach Cohen believes thatit will "do the team some good" for Duffy & Powers to be called out, so be it.

I admit, I usually stay away from the grammar smack, but I couldn't resist.

But seriously, if I am Powers or Duffy and I choked, I probably already know that I choked. Hopefully as seniors they can handle being singled out. I don't see it as Cohen throwing them under the bus, though. One thing that's pretty clear ... Cohen sure does hate to lose.
