So basically you want Riley to get the money and the blame and put in the work but you want him to follow your opinions on coaching selection and scheme
You can't really be serious are you? He was making just under $2mil at OSU. A year. for many years.
I am sure he is hurting for cash. He seems like he spends frivolously on that pimped out 10 speed he was driving around.
His move to NU had nothing to do with him needing money for retirement and to imply so just flat out shows ignorance.

That's pretty funny because, no one around here has been pining all that much for new and innovative. Most of the threads talk about stuff that's real old and still works. And Nebraska roots. And all that.
But the basic gist is, you think he should value your opinion over his, otherwise he's doomed to be an ignorant failure. It doesn't matter if you have a good heart, you want him to coach on your terms. For $3million, you probably won't be allowed to backseat drive.
This is a message board of opinions. Mike Riley is going to do whatever he thinks he should do not based on message board postings. My opinion is the only thing I am stating now I know you disagree with that and that I should be happy with whatever Riley decides to do

This goes back to the whole, "If you don't like Riley, you must be a Bo lover." nonsense. I think very, very, very few people are going to be upset if Riley produces championships. I don't think many people dislike the Riley hire because they have some kind of personal agenda against him. I think it's because his track record isn't anything to get excited about. The coaching blunders made by this veteran staff has cost this team a couple wins as well as the decision making at various points in the game. That is what people are upset about. Not Riley riding a bike to work or being a nice guy, but the one thing *ALL* coaches should be judged by, on the field results.
At this point in the season with just 3 games left, I'm done critiquing and criticizing. Riley isn't going anywhere. All I'm going to do is hope that we cut loose the dead weight, pull in a top 25 recruiting class and see what happens next year. Maybe, just maybe, for once the hype regarding scout team players is true and not BS, *cough* Adam Taylor *cough*. That POB comes in and has a 70% completion percentage, that Avery Anderson and Eric Lee come in and make a huge impact in the secondary and that all the injuries come to a stop.
If next year is like this year though...it's going to get really, really rough for Riley and company.
There has to be a board rule about the same damned half dozen posters starting the same damned thread over and over and over again trying to make the same damned point......isn't there? If not there should be. What Snohomish really wants is for us to not ignore him and his opinions.
I do think that Riley absolutely believes his staff can get the job done. At the same time, I think it could be easy for him to have clouded judgment-considering they are his buddies, especially his best friend, Banker.
The move was absolutely about not wanting to get rid of his friends. There was pressure to make changes on his staff and Nebraska came calling at the perfect time for him...
I do not believe the notion that he came here for the money. At the same time, I don't think he came here for the brass ring either. He came here for a fresh start. I don't think he has "it", that championship coaches have. IMHO, Riley wants to do what he thinks is right and is fine with whatever the result is on Saturday.
I think that's fair. Fresh start is probably accurate. But I also have no doubt whatsoever that he thinks he and his guys can get it done at a place like Nebraska, including a ring or two (not necessarily NC, but conference for sure). Does he have "it"? So far the answer is no. I'm willing to give him a little more time to make sure of it tho.

The funny thing about the OP is he blames others for ignoring the reality of the situation when he seems to ignoring other things that may be factoring into what is in play here. It's too easy to just blame coaching when coaching may only be one element.
It is easy blaming coaching because that is what has changed versus a string of nine win sessions. Another way to looks at this - can you sees us with this record if we kept Bo or hired Meyer or even Herman? My sense is we win the west in these scenarios.
Of course coaching has changed and yes, there are coaching issues. What else has changed? The fact we lost one of the best RB's to play here. We lost a game changing pass rushing DE. There have been injuries that have changed things. People are so short sighted, it's ridiculous. This team has so many issues you cant pinpoint just one. Is Riley the man to make this work? I don't know and neither does anyone else.
It's never as easy as some want to make it. Things aren't working. Let's fire, fire, fire. We don't know the whole dynamic that's in place, so let's just fire somebody 9 games in. Riley can't get it done but I guarantee coach X would win the west. Blah blah blah.

I don`t agree and that`s ok. This is the least star laden team in many moons here in Lincoln.
I am legitimately concerned about people's cognitive abilities these days, including the statements made by so many when Bo was in charge. There is so little reasoning going on that it is frightening. I continue to hope that it is simply agenda driven, rather than an inability to think things through, but that is just wishful thinking on my part.
I don't know if another coach would have won more or less games with this same team this season. That would be mere speculation. What I do know is it has been a pretty easy schedule so far and our record is 3-6. I am not saying we should be undefeated, but all those games were very winnable. Michigan State should be by far the best team we play this year. Let's see how Nebraska stacks up against them. .
We are going to have talent years like this from time to time, it's just the nature of fickle kids/transfers/misses/location/etc. If you're elite the key is to have coaching and walkons to mitigate. If we have another rash of injuries in a future season does this year repeat itself? Or does coaching and walkons keep us above 7 wins?
Was TO a bad coach/person for his actions as a coach? I can see attacking him for his actions as an administrator but am unsure about the criticism of his career as a coach. It is easy to separate the two roles.
