he may end up being a serviceable player.
Serviceable? I think this guy's going to be great by the time he's a junior.
To win in the SEC you must have guards no shorter than 6'2".Sub six foot guards means you will always struggle to make the NIT.
let's think about it. Summers 6'3'' Ready maybe 5'9". IJ will always be a defensive liability. When all your guards are smurfs you are in trouble. Flat Top did a great job on the Crazy Boy but when he twisted His ankle then Bloodman couldn't guard Him. I could list a bunch of sub6' guards that are in the NBA and were stars in college.
I could list sub6' guards that were great in the SEC and were the stars of their teams or didnt have issues because of their height.
But its Friday. And your comment is so far off base that its not worth disproving right no
I get the point you are trying to make though. So kudos on the attempt.
Ha, list them and let us discuss them. If you are so -basketball unsavy that you think having 5'9" guards is no problem at all, then to debate with you the pros and cons of a height advantage in basketball is probably a waste of time.
You can easily make the tourney with a 5'9" point guard. If IJ is consistently our worst matchup out of our starting 5, we will be a tournament team. Granted a 6'2 version of IJ would be better than the 5'9 version, but I'm very happy with the way IJ has looked the little I've seen him play.
If you're looking for now we can go Jameer Nelson, Ty Lawson, Kyle Lowry, Nate Robinson or Chris Paul. They're pretty decent...
Early Boykins, Avery Johnson, Damon Stoudamire, Brevin Knight, Isaih Thomas (current), Phil Pressey, DJ Augustine, JJ Barea, Aaron Brooks, Will Bynum, Patty Mills, Kemba Walker, Trey Burke ...
If we talk just college, we can immediately point to Hickey at LSU, that little dude Ole Miss had several years back, the other little dude Ole Miss had more recently, Releford is just listed at 6 foot - those are just off the top of my head. Google shows tons of them playing pretty well across the country
call me back when Ready and Bloodman make that list. There are exceptions to everything

That's a weak response. I don't think anyone here would argue that having guards 6'2 and above is the ideal situation. But, you simply asked for a list of 6' and below guards that were successful and multiple posters listed EXACTLY what you asked for because you said you would discuss them.
well let's discuss them.almost all of them are taller than our guards. They are also way more talented. Kemba Walker is 6' 1". It is the same argument with qb that are short, Can you find some that are successful, sure you can. But they all have elite talent. You have to game plan to make them successful,. Avery johnson couldn't guard NBA 6'5" guards. Did you not see Ready trying to guard the SC guard that was 6'5", he got killed. You go sign up some sub six footers and I'll take the 6'2" and bigger and we will see who wins.
if you are happy with 5'9" guards then you must be happy with losing 13 in a row. learn to love getting your *** beat, because it will become a regular occurrence.
I watched the game with a few MSU friends of mine last night. I asked them who that IJ Ready kid was, because I thought he looked pretty good for a freshman. Maybe not a star, but a good solid player for yall.
I'd trade yall Derrick Millinghause for IJ Ready in a heartbeat. I'll even throw in Demarco Cox too.
Exactly. If all of your guards are 5'2, you are in trouble. If just one is and is a talented player, match him up with some lengthy SG's and SF's and you can be fine.

your and idiot.
Have you ever watched a basketball game? You don't actually win basketball games by lining up back to back and adding up the heights of the teams. There are other things that go into it and while being taller is better when all other things are equal, all things are not equal. Some players are faster, have better ball control, can shoot better, can jump higher, etc., so they are able to be just as good or better than a guy 6 inches taller than them.
I bet you were pissed when stansbury kept Reik on the Bench. I mean that 17er was 7 feet tall. You probably though he would have been an awesome guard.
First, it is "you're an idiot" instead of "your and idiot". I would retake an English course before calling someone an idiot.

Second, your argument is bad. Yes, there are exceptions, but basketball is a game of matchups. I don't want a 5'9" guard to try and stop a 6'5" guard in most instances; more times than not you are going to get beat. You better have "length" in basketball. His argument is valid - we are the worst defensive team (field goal % defense), because we don't have the "length".
