If Kansas or Kentucky or _____________ tries to hire Ben does he move on?
This has been in the back of my mind since his introductory press conference.

As another poster replied. Not after year one. I don't think he would leave under any circumstances after one year. ALSO the blue bloods are not going to woo him with life changing money QUITE yet. But this being discussed ALREADY is a good thing. I thought it would take a few years but this is a sign that we have had a successful season. The sweet 16 monkey off the back this early in his tenure also buys him at least a few sprinkled in years of somewhat mediocre seasons. This is going to depend on 2 large factors. Can he recruit the guys he needs without a blue blood label next to his name? And will he get the adequate NIL support he needs? I have a feeling we might see some added $$$ to the Swarm donation levels. I sure hope so or this is going to be a question that will frequent this board an insane number of times. It's not going to help that now at this point his name will probably be mentioned in most media outlets every time a big name opening comes up.

Hopefully he has watched, "The Fred Hoiberg Experiment" as it has played out through the years. Could have been a fixture in Ames for as long as he wanted (was the Mayor of the city as a college student!) and would have continued to do amazing in Ames! But went for the N$B$A and was tossed out only to have to restart back in college. Let's just keep Ben right in IC where he belongs!

If he did, it would be a bigger shock than Iowa winning the national title this season. Ben was born and bred a Hawkeye. He has his dream job. Not everybody is chasing the biggest paycheck. Ben wants to make Iowa a better program than Kansas or Kentucky or North Carolina. He doesn't want to be them. He's a Hawkeye. At least that's the vibe I get from the guy who spent 14 years in D II at Northeast Missouri State, 1 year at Drake, and now has Iowa one win from the Elite Eight and two from the Final Four with a bunch of guys from NE Missouri, Drake, and Robert Morris. He ain't goin' anywhere, except maybe to Iowa's first Final Four since 1980. IMHO, of course.

Depends on what their offer is and what Iowa does to counter that offer. I could see him staying for less money, but if one of those programs offers $4-$5 million and Iowa comes back with $900k, then he may not really have a choice. FWIW, I have no idea what he is paid now or what those other schools would offer so sorry if my guesses are wrong. You get the idea.

I listened to a podcast a couple months ago where Leistikow interviewed Beth Goetz. Beth said last year Ben and his family were in IC for discussions and she was worried about getting a deal done. Ben's wife pulled Beth aside and told her "don't worry, this is his dream job", and of course a deal got done. Keeping that in mind, I think it would take an astronomical amount of money to pull him away from Iowa, and whatever that amount is, Iowa should have the ability to match it (or at least come very close).

I keep seeing people mention grinder ball. First watching it does not seem like grinder ball because of how much movement there is in the offense. Second if he has 5* players he will run a faster tempo offense, but Ben is smart enough to know that if you are going to win with the team he has now you have to play this way.

I think he needs a splash in the portal to land another stellar PG, and then with recruiting he is going to start building something special as he proves he has it at the Power 4 level.

Ben is at $3.5M this year without incentives and that puts him around 40th from what last year salaries show. To get to top 20 pay range Iowa would have to increase to +$4.2M which at this moment seems reasonable.
I could also see Ben being content with this salary and asking for more in NIL to really build his brand.
This is a great problem to have right now.

At Iowa, you reach the Sweet 16 and you likely have a lifetime contract. At the other schools mentioned if you miss a Sweet 16 just one year and you’re on the hot seat.

I’m sure Ben understands that and it plays a large role in his decision making.

Iowa still needs to invest more in men’s basketball though. No more third or fourth fiddle. Men’s basketball needs to rival Iowa Football in popularity, IMO.

For grinder ball, I can say I never get bored watching them play because there is so much movement. It's not like watching Wisconsin throwing rocks and punching people in the nuts. It's deceptively grinder because it looks a lot like a high tempo offense. It's just a lot of passing.

for some perspective even Steve Alford managed to take Southwest Missouri State to the sweet 16 as a no. 13 seed
let ben take us to the final four before worrying :)
