I'm convinced now that Dan is headed elsewhere

He knows that this is probably as good as it gets for him at MSU. He's going to go all-in with his agent next week and try to line up a bigger payday while he still can.

He has no one else to blame but himself

He had a chance for a NC but he screwed it up

did he not progress this year from previous years?

This is good as it's gonna get? really? We were ONE game away from possibly being in the College Football Playoff!

You guys need to take a break. This is a hell of an improvement. Dan is fine and we are fine.

Just saying from the point of view of someone who might want to make a jump, it's a good time to do it.

Really though, I'm trying to jinx Mullen into staying.

Interesting the other day, on his chat Mike Bonner of the clarion liar, was asked if Mullen was leaving, and he said a month ago he would have said yes, but right now he's didn't have a good feel for which way. Kind of unusual for local writers to speculate like that.

Ya. We win 10 games in the regular season and our coaches supposedly mailed it in. If you are disappointed with that, either find a new team to cheer for or go hang yourself.

Man ole man, Dan did a helluva job overall this year, you do know we can still win 11 games? I bet most predicted a much lesser record and second place in the west?

I'd be happy with 10 wins every year and so would the majority of teams!

Dan is playing his cards close to his vest.

If he leaves we will hire Hud which is fine with me. I hope Dan stays but I don't like playing games.

I predicted 7-5. And here we are at 10-2 in the most balanced division of the toughest conference in the nation.
A major bowl invite is pending, lots of favorable publicity, and the most successful coach in modern football at MSU.
I hope Dan and his family continue to be happy in Starkville. He may become the victim of the expectations of the fanbase, but he is doing a solid job. Maybe we can find a way to keep this staff together too. Other than the 2 road losses, they have been on top of the game all year.

I'm just wondering what kind of jobs some of you have.

Did you peak at your profession in year 5? Head coaching is a different ballgame from coordinator (ask Florida, Vandy, O, the coach). What I've seen is learning and progression every year in recruiting, in play-calling, team management, game management, etc. Still a lot of work to do, but we don't have a winning tradition, we are building one, and that takes winning over and over and over again.

It's all on Dak's descision IMO. I don't want him to go but after tonight, something just seemed to be missing...How many times can a kid hear "play every snap with everything you have" "play 60 minutes" ...Dan may need to start getting creative with his motivation. I mean, UM trolled thier entire fan base with a hate note propaganda scheme..the entire campus wanted blood....and we waltz in and play like Skeeter and Mox after an all night tit bender. I will never be able to explain todays flatness nor will I EVER forget it. Just bizarre. My yearly melt over.

I think you just hit on the problem. "happy with 10 wins every year". When you look at how many players and key players we are losing to graduation, it is not going to be easy for us to win 10 next year.

Our fans have to have reasonable expectations. If we think next year is going to be just like this year, we aren't paying attention. He has to be concerned that our expectations have been raised beyond what he can foresee accomplishing. Look at Pelini. 7 straight 9 win seasons and fired today. It all depends on what the fans expect.

Sometimes having a great year can get you fired the next.

Mullen does not suck up enough to the ADs of this world to be offered another job even if he wanted another job.
And I don't think he wants another job after yesterday.
Mullen tells it like it is. No sugar coat. ADs like Foley can't handle that.

Where would Mullen go?

Florida is not going to hire him and his spread option offense is too similar to Rich Rodriguez for Michigan to hire him. I guess Nebraska could come after him, but would they pay him anymore than what we would counter, especially considering the amount of money Nebraska will have to pay Pellini for the next 5 years? Not sure Mullen will really have many better options this year.

His biggest challenge on a continuing basis is probably keeping a good staff. So far he has done it remarkably well and is unafraid to cull it when necessary.

One thing for sure...he ain't going to any job other than a higher profile gig. Is Nebraska really better? At one time it may have been but that was a long time ago. Also, it's probably not any easier to recruit to Nebraska than it is to Stark Vegas.

wow

some folks need to take a step back.... Mullen isnt going anywhere... We 17ing lose 2 games on the road and now the sky is falling.
turn the computer off, go make a drink and watch some NFL. check back in at the end of December or after Jan 1, when we are 11-2.
