In all

honesty, I'd rather have a kid that can play be on the team than another Iupe or whatever the clowns name was from last year.

I think it would be better for our program if we just cancelled the season. I think it would be an easier sell in recruiting.

"Hey Mr. 4 or 5 star, it's not like we only won 5 games last year. We didn't play any."

Joking aside, I hope Rick Ray is really, really special because its going to take nothing short of a miracle to be able to pull this program back up after the type of season we are most likely about to endure.

Not sure you can blame this on Rick Ray. Assuming this is about drug tests, it's not like our drug testing policy can be that stringent considering who has made it over the years. If they keep failing drug tests, I'm not sure what you can do. Rick Ray may not be doing a good job, but I'm not sure what you're supposed to do if you inherit a team full of players that don't want to work hard and/or don't want to stop doing drugs. Accommodating them obviously wasn't getting us anywhere, although it did allow us to field a full team and generally only play players that were decent division I talents. I'm sure there are probably some coaches that could do it, but I'm not sure how you break out of that cycle without starting over.

I can't wait to see the crowd at the first game. And we were doing so good as an athletic department with bringing in fans across the board... Now we have the Croom of basketball.

Wow we don't even get to watch Zeidaks play once! Shaun Smith is now in the category of biggest busts ever for MSU basketball. What a joke and waste of money he was. How much money you think was spent on Shaun Smith in the last 4 years? Atleast a half million. I'm guessing his multiple surgeries are covered by MSU. Recruitment, scholarships, housing, expenses, traveling including multiple Euro trips, health costs etc...I'm saying easily a half mill was spent on Smith. What a waste.

Losing Smith won't hurt us much, if at all. Who knows about Zeidaks? I had thought he could be a decent player for us, but he was already going to miss most of the non-conference part of the season. At this point, I think we're better off establishing some discipline than keeping Smith's talent on the team. I'm a lot more concerned about the injuries than I am the suspensions.

Wow all you assclowns who bitched and complained

@msuhoopsgregg: MSU coach Rick Ray has announced the dismissal of Shaun Smith and Kristers Zeidaks for repeated violations of team rules.

about our "dumpster fire" of a basketball program please do not post one negative thing about Ray dismissing 2 thugs who did not do what they needed to do. I didn't like the 17ing Ray hire either but Jesus Christ this guy is at least trying to run a program that requires hard work and obeying the rules to stay on the freakin team. Yes, we are going to suck but Ray HASN'T COACHED ONE GAME YET CLOWNS. Shaun Smith sucked anyway.

Brilliance! We don't give a **** about winning games anyway! We just want a good prep-school offense. I see nothing here to keep that from happening. In fact, it probably opens the door for more prep-school offense types.

good grief this is starting to sound like the "Blame Bush" arguments...when does he become responsible for this?? Mark it down. We will be among the worst in the Nation and when we are struggling to beat NAIAA opponents and finally ditch him there will be no Mullen to come in and save the day. You guys wanted it. Now you got it. Our basketball program is officially in the *******.

Are you saying the condition this basketball program is in is not due to "the failed policies of Rick Stansbury"?

I'm probably one of the biggest college basketball fans out there. My entire family is full of basketball fanatics. I look forward to the season with much anticipation every year.....

But damn, this is gonna be godawful. I truly hope Rick Ray is something special, because his chances of making us competitive are really, really low. I know we haven't seen him coach, but at this point I don't even think it's about that. I hope he can pull some rabbits out of his hat when it comes to recruiting. Otherwise, this may get to a level of ugly that we've never thought possible. I don't think Smith or Zeidaks were going to make us average, but even marginal depth would be an asset for this season.

/it's not a comment on Ray or the way he's running his program. it's just sad.

Which fans are those? Are there any even on this board? Shirley you can name at least one poster on this board that wants our new coach to fail since there are so many fans out there that feel this way.

Holy crap we are going to blow. This will easily be the worst team at MSU since Richard Williams first season when we won 7 games. I don't fault Coach Ray but this is an unreal perfect storm of suckitude coming to a head.

I had no expectations for Smith because he has sucked since day one but we have no big men now besides Lewis who also sucks and a true freshman with Ware. Our only prayer is to shoot 50 threes a game and hope we get hot a few nights.

Do you realize that Rick Ray was only hired this year and didn't recruit either of those players? Unless we find out they were kicked off the team for not tucking in their shirts, I'm going to say it's not his fault that some players repeatedly violate team rules. It's entirely possible he could be handling the players better (although it's kind of hard to tell as a result of that not coaching a 17ing game yet), but yes it's largely Stansbury's fault that we have players that in general are undisciplined and have attitude problems. It's true that those players helped make MSU a bubble team in most years, but it's also true that if we want to ever be anything more than a bubble team, we have to have players that work hard and follow directions, and that it was almost inevitable we would take a step back if/when we tried to make that transition.

Stansbury did a lot of good things for MSU basketball and should always be welcome at MSU, but the character risks he took over the last few years left us in no man's land.

Good job Coach Ray. I'd rather lose with winners any day of the week thanwith guys who can't even follow the simple rules that allow them to keep full rides to a great college.

I have to admit though, I am pretty nervous about the long term issues that come with a gigantically awful season like the one we are about to have. We have to hope he can recruit on the heels of being killed in the press. The only hope I think he has is if the remaining guys on the team actually play their asses off even when losing AND then they sing his praises about development. If instead we go out there and don't play hard and we have a bunch of twitter/FB posts about hating the coach/team/system, then it will be a very short lived tenure for Ray at MSU.

Most here seemed to want change in our basketball program. Quit bitching, you got it. Edited to add: this was supposed to be a general reply to the thread, not to one post.

Actually, most of us wanted change years ago. It's the fault of idiots like you that it had to get this bad first.

Really, you are only making yourself look bad by digging in on Rick at this point. How he left the program more than settled the argument.

Please, Dan, please get us to a decent bowl, because then it will only be about 7 weeks lag time till baseball season once football finishes up.
