I'm not sure what is worse about scout.com

That they decided to take away a star from a kid based in unsubstantiated information this close to signing day, or that they caved to the demands of subscribers and reversed the decision. Either way, it shows how credible these sites are.

I think it's good if a site breaks a recruit committing but the star fight is ridiculous.

outrage wasn't over the stars for Quay, it was directed toward the bias the site had showed in the past when it came to rating our guys versus some other schools up north. Quay was just the straw that broke the sheep's back so to speak.

a player is as good as he is going to be whether he be a 5 or 1 star. But, where I think it may be beneficial to get a 5 star player or two is with perception. A 5 star recruit is big man on campus in high school football (and probably even more so in MS) and they are watched by other players. If we show that we can get the biggest names on the recruiting sites, then next year it might make us more of a viable candidate in the minds of the better players in that class. I think that is why yancy tries to manipulate the star system so much, b/c if anyone tries to steer perception it is them.

What's funny to me is the people who think the star manipulation only goes one direction. You just don't recognize it when it favors one of your players because when that happens, it's warranted in the biased eye.

They ALL manipulate it. A lot of Mullen's Plan B's in the past have been given a boost from Rosebowl getting them a bump. Ultimately, it's about mythical recruiting championships. Ever wonder why the SEC ratings are always so inflated? Yes, we do bring in the most talent in the country, but our classes as a league are on average well overrated because our fans care more and the sites manipulate the ratings to cater to the SEC schools since we push recruiting so much.

The ONLY reason the rating system matters in a concreate way is if your coach attempts to use it as a recruiting pitch. I know Orgeron would push for his signees to get re-evaluated and ranked higher because he wanted to be able to walk into a recruit's living room and tell them they were going to be joining a class that's ranked X in the nation. He would use it as part of his sales pitch, so it can be used as a tool by coaches. That's it.

Its a shame too because Scout has a good database. Unfortunately Jean, Rosebowl, Yancy and McCready leave little to be desired. The site would almost be worth subscribing to if these 4 would quit pillow fighting over recruits and tell the damn story. Unfortunately they feel like they have to pander to their audience and this is the end result.<div>
<div>I'm sure the Scout page is good for other states where the "experts" aren't meatball fans of the school they cover.</div><div><div><div><div>
</div><div>As of now, the 24/7 seems to have the best community and writers. Paul Jones seems to be a standup guy and a straight shooter. He kinda tells it like it is and respects the recruits and their wishes. Of course the site does have it sunshine pumpers like Political Hack and Sevendust. But from time to time, they do addrelevant information. Once their database gets bolstered a bit, they will be the end all recruiting site for MSU recrootin'.</div></div></div></div> </div>

dumbfounded that people get so worked up over the "star" system. I love college football and recruiting news, but couldn't care less about these rankings.

Yes Yancy and Gene are both giant douches. But Yancy has the ear of the coaches in Oxford much more than Gene does. It's pretty obvious he's actively working with the staff like you say. Which certainly increase his accuracy on predictions. And he never misses a beat to spread some nasty rumors even if they came from Facebook or a message board. Gene just has to tend to his flock which is a whole other ball of wax.
If all these Rumors about Quay aren't true, and frankly they seem too incredible to be true and nothing have happened, then I hope Yancy gets a royal *** whipping by someone from the Evans clan.

Six national titles in a row from 4 different teams says there might be really something to SEC recruiting class rankings - IN GENERAL.

As it stands, any upstanding Ole Miss fan like yourself should be unqualified to discuss recruiting based on your recent history on such matters.

Both saw him play as a Junior and Sophmore, they really thought that Quay as a player was better as a Junior and Sophmore than he was this year.

One of my friends said it reminded him of Powe and his progression, where he was probably the best player in the state as a sophmore and he was still good his senior year, just not as good as he was as a sophmore.

I have no idea about off the field issues, and until someone is willing to put their name on it, I think its all crap.Evans just needs to get in a proper weight program and I think he can get back to the player he used to be.

says some idiotic things, but I don't think he's too far off here. These sites are in the business of making money. They couldn't care less about accuracy. It's in their best interest to make their customers happy. At the same time,it's no surprise that their higher ranked classes would be SEC schools (based on on-field success).

Like I said, obviously we have the best talent here, but every year there are typically as many as 8 or 9 teams in the SEC ranked in the Top 25 in the recruiting rankings. We don't have 8 or 9 of the 25 best teams in the nation every year in my opinion.

As it stands, there are 6 SEC teams in the BCS top 25. I think 6-8 is normal. So the recruiting rankings are in line - GENERALLY.

Even Mississippi only lost to BYU (#26) by 1 and really should have won the game. And I'd put Vandy or Florida up against the bottom of the top 25 and feel pretty good about my chances.
