For the most part games are not won on the defensive side of the ball in the big 12 but you would think that our depth would be allot better on the DLine considering we are entering year six of the current coaching regime.
Not sure anymore what wins in the Big 12-2=10 soon-to-be-12-or -maybe 14. WVU could not get it done with a loaded offensive team in 2012, or last year with a good D (by conference standards.) Had to be flukes though since I am told we have a top notch HC.
The 2012 team was filled with Big East talent we have had 5 years to build the depth necessary to compete in the Big 12. Most teams that win the Big 12 are not defensive juggernauts.
I agree, but without depth on the DL, there is no pressure on the QB.
No pressure = oodles of passing yards = losses
Outside of Oklahoma no other team in the conference outside of Okie state has some serious question marks that need addressing. It seems most teams are in the same boat as us either there trying to replace an entire defense like us or an entire offense like TCU at the end no scoring equals losses in this conference.
The 2012 team had the best offensive trio in WVU history in Tavon, Geno and Stedman. Hardly just "Big East talent."
I wouldn't mind seeing Donte Angus shifted to defense. Hasn't risen to the top on o-line but has big time size. Why not try him out at nose?
No run game. Total net yards rushing 2234, If not for Tavon's vs OU rushing yards of 344 and playing ISU and Kansas the last 2 games to pad the rush stats.
OU - 458 net rushing
ISU - 239 net rushing
KU - 240 net rushing
Total the last 3 games 937 net yards rushing.
Compare that to Smallwood 1549 net yards rushing 2015.
Talent or not you need a run game.
This season for the first time WVU is balanced offensive attack of run and pass.
Tell me why you think here is no depth on D-line. Because I see 3 deep.
You have mistaken the D-line depth with that of LB, as many of the LB have not played. 3 of them have quality experience but after that LB is thin as far as experience.
When have we ever had "quality depth" on the DL? The line will be the strength of our D is year so it seems like an odd thing to complain about...
If it makes you feel balanced.... ...you're about to become concerned about the online too.
Well, he could at least play in the goal line defense, like Jozwiak and Kessler back in the day.
