I'm starting to get the feeling

I disagree. They aren't playing loose at all... defensively we are tight, offensively, the same. Minus defensive miscues, we win the second game and win against Memphis. We've got to loosen up and remember who we are.

No reason for Henderson to challenge third base, though... none. Even though it was a hit and run, it was too shallow.

Should we start to get worried?

Or is this just Cohen messing around with the lineup and stuff? It may just be me but it seems like Cohen's teams don't really get going until later in the season.

.....or is could just be the standard MSU ********. Injuns tickle your balls a little, tricking you into looking forward to an awesome team - only to rip them completely off at some point.

Nothing wrong w Henderson going for third. We still had tying run in scoring position. If he is safe we have winning run in scoring position. Good risk/reward.

Bullcrap. You don't play that aggressive on the bases in the 9th down when outs are a premium especially a senior that should understand that. Yes, play that aggressive early to middle of the game but not in the 9th.

Did you notice Mingione just looked at him like he was a dumbass when he looked up after pounding the ground?

We are just not that great of a team. Enjoy last years run and wait on football.
This. We were over rated based on last years success. Hopefully they will get better as the season moves on, but I'm not expecting great things for this season.

Beachbum, what was lost? We still had a guy in scoring position. And Henderson shoulda had the speed to be there. It was a hit and run. He is slowest fast guy I know. Also it was bang bang not like he was out by a mile.

Cohen plays a ton of players at the first of the season to see who will step up and perform. That's why you see Cohens team sputter at the beginning of the year and take off at the end. You will know more about this team when we get closer to the SEC schedule and we have more of a consistent lineup and pitchers we are going to use. Right now the only thing I'm disappointed in is the Canadians. I had high hopes for those two and hopefully they will come around.

I tend to agree. Last year's team wasn't really that good, but things just fell into place-some timely hitting and a lot of good pitching at the right time. A lot of luck, but also good play by the team when it counted.

What? Terrible risk/reward. He's trying to take 3rd base from the left fielder - not in the gap! He was ALREADY in scoring position. He scores with a base hit and the winning run is then on 2nd. With a sac fly, tying run is at 3rd base with 2 outs. He took the bat out of the batters hands, where a pop foul doesn't end the threat.

Did he run through the sign?

Opening weekend:
- People worried about Woodruff
- People worried about our hitting
- Defense and pitching overall A++

Midweek:
- People worried about our hitting
- People worried about our defense
- People worried about our closer

Second weekend:
- People worried about our defense
- People worried about our relief pitching(and still worried about our closer)
- Hitting pretty good(.310 in the series through 3 games)

None of our "problems" are consistently there. They come and go. Team simply isn't putting the pieces together yet. We had it together to start last year -- had a midseason lull for a month(3/4 of which was in conference where we started 3-6 for the second straight year) -- before getting hot at the end. The fact that our "problems" have been a revolving door of different things point to us playing tight and simply not up to our ability as a team yet. I'd prefer that to happen now rather than at the start of conference play. But we can't keep losing these games if a National Seed is going to be a real possibility. RPI helped us last year, but it's likely to hurt us this year(SOS)...

It was a hit and run. He didn't run through anything. If you can't understand that taking that bag allows the hitter to take second so either way we still have a tying run in scoring position and the risk/reward there then we just gotta move on.

I have readjusted my expectations from hosting a Super regional to hoping we make it to Hoover.

We lost an opportunity with runners in scoring position... AKA an out. Instead of a runner at second with 1 out, we had a runner at second with 2 outs. Your chances decrease tremendously of scoring him. He never should have challenged third with the LF playing that far in.

You also lose the winning run being on base.

But you could have had the winning running in scoring position and you would've taken away the double play

Didn't run through anything? The runner is still responsible for finding the ball after it's put in play in a hit n run. It's not, "I'm taking 3rd base do or die."

Oh, I understand taking the bag puts the tying run in scoring position. But he did NOT take the bag and had ZERO chance of taking the bag unless the LF makes an errant throw. He didn't. State lost.

Clearly you don't understand the value of an out in a 9th inning rally. So, just move on.

It was still not smart. You can cut it and defend it how you want, but it was not smart. The idea is to put pressure on defenses by being patient and waiting on good opportunities when you are down a run, not giving them outs with overly aggressive base running.
