someone provide a bullet point timeline on why this guy rose so quickly, why he wasnt identified by anyone but MSU and how he slipped through the cracks? I am glad he did and seems like a huge get for MSU but his story is fantastic.

We were on him early and he has been solid with us the whole way through.

I think he really blew up in terms of stars because of the MS-AL allstar practices and the game itself. Lots of eyes were there. They saw a guy dominating, looked at his rankings, and knew he needed an upgrade.

Thanks Flab - props to the staff for identifying this guy. I would guess he didnt hit the camp circuit hard? If he had I am sure others would have saw what State's staff did.

He actually started blowing up earlier this year. His stas from high school are silly/video game good. However, he plays for Houston and has not faced the level of competition that other higher ranked kids accross the country have faced. The 24/7 regional guys i.e. the ones not affiliated with the MSU site have been high on him for a while. His talent was validated, so to speak, at the MS/AL all start game because he continued his dominance against better competition.

It's also a great reason to be patient with the staff with early commits.

I have no doubts that there were people scratching their heads when we offered this guy and bitched that he didn't have a solid offer sheet. Talent is talent and stars matter, but Mississippi is so rural that other staffs and evaluation experts simply don't have the resources to get a solid evaluation on a lot of the kids in Mississippi.

Jones was rated 2-star at the June camp. The staff knew they had something and invited him to the big dawg camp. They offered him. Some fans were calling for heads to roll because Mullen "reaches too much" on two-star athletes. I can't remember how long before he was awarded two more stars. Scout was way ahead of the curb though as they predicted that he would easily be a three star by the end of the season.
