This is so wrong, I just can't let it go unanswered.
John Cohen took over two SEC programs in disarray, needing complete rebuilds. UK had never been a good program before JC. In their entire history pre-JC they had gone to 2 regionals, the last one in 1993. They had won a total of 3 NCAA tourney games ALL-TIME! In the 7 years before JC they had exactly one winning season. COMPLETE REBUILD!
For that reason, it is silly to not recognize CJC's first two years are a write-off, and should never be counted when comparing his record as a HC with others who have taken over at established winners.
CJC gets a pass on 2004 & 2005. NOT HIS FAULT. His record at UK after those 2 rebuild years is 122-55-1 (.668)8)8), 49-30-1 (.619) SEC.
CGH took over UK AFTER CJC turned it into a winner. His record at UK is 258-199 (.565), 105-134 (.439) SEC.
Pay close attention to that SEC winning percentage. One gets you in SEC & NCAA tourneys regularly. The other leaves you sitting at home for the post season 75% of the time.
CJC took over an MSU program that, though it had been to several regionals & a CWS in Polk's 2nd term, it was clearly in rapid decline, culminating in Polk's final year SEC record of 9-21. We all know the inside scoop, that the cupboard was bare for JC. Took 2 years to rebuild our program. We all lived through it, so I don't need to sell it here. By his 3rd year, CJC had us in a SR. By his 5th we were back in the CWS and the NC game. In the 6 years that followed the 2-yr rebuild CJC lead us to 5 regionals, 3 SR's and the NC games. His final year , 2016 he had us as a #6 National Seed.
Again, the idea that you can favorably compare CGH's record to CJC is just absurd. Everywhere CJC has been HC he has been successful and elevated the program past where it was when he got there. CGH is just the opposite. UK went South under CGH. He left it worse than he got it.
Point is, you don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about. You insist he is at least a pretty good coach. You base that on what? Must be the hot streak we have been on, because it's damn sure not his 9-year record as HC at UK. It's not his 1 year as HC at Chapman.
All we really know is he appears to be a really good guy, the guys seem to like him, and he's had success as an assistant coach. But he has not been pretty good as an HC.
