If you go watch some of the interviews, you can't help but be impressed. Of course how this translates to recruiting and wins and losses is yet to be seen. This is true with any new coach.

But he really seems like a no-nonsense guy with a vision, who will work extremely hard, develop our players, and hold everyone in the program accountable.

At least he is a know expert in Defense. Brought in by Meyer and praised by Alverez. He has the pedigree. Flood was good guy, players coach who was liked by the players, but we never really had any offensive or defensive idenity, and I think a lot of that was because Flood was not really an offensive or defensive expert with a known philosophy.

Agree, have to laugh at those already putting him down. Looking forward to him getting started and seeing how the players and recruits react.

I hope he goes after the best in the state of RUtgers and can convince some of them with his vision, but if not, hopefully he is prepared to get good players in Florida or the midwest as well.

While my first choice would be a proven winner as HC, I'd certainly prefer someone with upside potential over someone who has already failed or has already shown a limited ceiling.

The basic premise of curedby's sentiment is flawed. He's worried because few of the defensive players at OSU list Ash as their recruiter. That's because he's only been there 2 years. His recruits are freshmen, and likely redshirts. Unless he recruited a 4-5 star good enough to walk in and play over an older 4-5 star...that's just silly.

In addition the guy who's been around big time coaches and programs with championship hardware, did so in a capacity other than the Head Coach, of which requires other skills. Plenty of Assistants under big time Head Coaches with championship hardware have failed when they became the main guy.

I'm not referring to failed in the same job. Using Golden as an example, Golden failed at Miami and the Rutgers HC job would have been a different job for him.

Yes, all things being equal and not being in the interview room, I would have preferred Golden. I believe the end results under both would not be any different.

The right thing to do would have been to spend the money for a current and experienced HC.

The truth is that this was a solid hire, as CFB HC hires go. Ash has credentials that say big potential. But we don't know if he'll live up to that potential or not. And most likely, we won't know for a couple years (at least and probably more than that).

but, plenty around here remember how many previous "coordinators looking to become head coaches" have fared. No reason to presume it'd turn out that way again... but, a little caution is okay.

Spot on, I'm excited about this. No one knows what or how this will pan out but if he was good enough for the best team in the country we should be pumped. Golden and Cristobal had chances and didn't impress or they would still be coaching. Glad to see some new blood.

I really don't know how anyone can complain about the hire 2 hours in. You have no clue how its going to work out, so why not look at it positively? I guess these are the same people who see a $10 bill on the sidewalk and complain it wasn't a $20
