Final rankings:
2014: unranked in both polls
2013: AP-unranked, Coaches-#25
2012: AP-#25, Coaches-#23
2011: #24 in both polls

Such results would be great for the Iowa States of the world but not Nebraska. We've either barely finished in the top 25 or finished unranked the past 4 seasons. Throw in the 1-3 bowl record, zero championships, blowouts on the field, Bo's blowups off the field, and crappy record against ranked teams. You'll find that you have to go back to September-October 2010 to find a period when we weren't sucking.

Ya, I get the blow outs everyone gets that. But you cleave act like Nebraska was 5-7 or 4-8 and thanks for showing that were ranked you don't suck if your ranked in the top 25 and winning 9+.Callahan sucked I'll agree on that. Ask Minnesota if they sucked the last 2 years at 8-5.
For me its not really even about wins and losses but it has been since 2001 that Nu has had a season where we were ven in the discussion for a top ten type finish - our best season since 2001 was a 4 loss 2009 with a an absolutely horrible offense and a loss at home to ISU

Think of all the schools that have passed us by in that time frame there are many teams that have had at least one year where they were relevant but sadly we have not been one of those

The AD with all the resources thrown at it has very much under performed in the last 12 years

I have no dought that we have a better staff than we had, but is it good enough to improve our record? I'd say no. A lot of the experience we see is average results type of experience. Top 10 in this or that but nothing that jumps out as this guy is great. And my problem with the Smiley hire is that we had 2 possibilities who would have made an immediate championship threatening impact.

Tresses won a national championship out of the big 10. I don't care if somebody gave them tattoos or not, he has won a national championship.

And gruden. Open the pocket book and he would come. We would have had 4 & 5 star players decommitting and standing in line to sign with nebraska. Why? One is his tv exposure, every player knows who he is. Two, he has won a super bowl. Not top 10 or helped a qb improve his stats, he won the damn thing.

Just seems to me with Smiley and all his now overpaid buddies, we bought average.

First of all, do you have to already come up with a derogatory nickname for our new coach? Second of all, I really can't believe you are serious with Gruden. Really? Everybody in the market for a coach came up with that idea a few years ago. He could have had any job he wanted. He never gave any indication he had any interest in leaving his current gig. He would not have come here, plain and simple. I can't believe people were ever that excited over a guy with little to no college experience in the first place. Get real.

I am real high on the staff HCMR has assembled. However, I also keep in mind that when they showed up at Nebraska Kevin Cosgrove had 21 years experience, Ross Els had 22, and Elmassian had 30.
Ouch!!

Tressel no longer an option this year, and Gruden, LOL. Just a name tossed around with every single college, pro, and HS coach opening in the country.

Gruden and Tressel?! Ha. I was laughing all over this board during the coaching search when the Tressel rumors just would not die. I have zero inside information yet even I knew that scenario was as likely as Miley Cyrus becoming a nun.

Folks, we need to rally around Mike Riley and give him 1000% fan support and not talk on chat boards before he has even coached one game about what a lousy hire he was and so on. As was noted above, anyone on here who thinks the NU coaching job is so desirable that we could lure one of the "super duper big splash gee whiz wow!" coaches who are all the rage and the flavor of the month is smoking something. Sure we could get lucky and maybe land someone like that. But it is highly unlikely. That is why I think the Riley hire was an absolute stroke of genius. One of THE most respected coaches in all of college football is now in Lincoln. He is not about himself or the promotion of his career. He is not about the publicity. He is not about raking in huge loads of cash. He will not make a fool of himself on the sideline. He is an adult as opposed to the petulant adolescent we just kicked out of the house. He can manage talent and recruit nationally.

It might take him five years to win a B1G title. It might take him two years. He might never win one. Who knows? But to continue the pity train where we lament the fact we did not "open the checkbook" and pay Saban 10 million a year to come here is very counter productive.

I like Mike Riley. I like Tim Miles. We now have the facilities, fan support, and monetary resources in both sports to be successful if we give these two excellent coaches time. I am cynical as hell about our basketball program. But even I know that Miles is the best damn basketball coach we have ever had at NU.

Go Big Red

Come on, wake up. People who post "open the checkbook and hire Gruden" instantly lose credibility. If you want to throw out names of other coaches, fine, whatever. But stop throwing out "Gruden". Anyone who pays attention knows that wasn't gonna happen.

I hope to God it never leaks that, in fact, Gruden, Harbaugh, Cowher and Parcells all expressed interest in the Neb opening but Eichorst felt they wouldn't be a good fit.

I can't imagine the **** storm that would ensue if this ever comes to light

Yeah, I heard that Pete Carroll is tired of the prima donnas in the NFL and was disappointed when he expressed an interest in the Nebraska job but we turned him down. He was even willing to come before the playoffs, but Nebraska went in a different direction.

Of course, this was after we turned down Bellichek under similar circumstances...

That stadium sucks something awful and lends itself well to bunting.
not when you're already behind multiple runs.

lol, poor Michigan, had to settle for Jim Harbaugh. Drats, it's tough to be a wolverine fan and have a coach that no other team wanted. (Sarcasm). I've never been happier and I speak for a vast majority of the wolverine fans.

Stars aren't always right but as a rule, OSU, Bama, etc. have a hell of a lot more 4 and 5 stars than we do, meaning Michigan and Nebraska, and as of now, it shows on the field and the scoreboard.

You might want to take a look at my other post concerning the rest of their resume. I also think that if Bankers D even comes close to the cluster that Cosgrove had he will be gone.
