This team has the best potential to play from behind of any we've had since 2000 with the ability to hit on long passes and score quickly. I'd rather not play from behind though, and we haven't had to practically at all this season yet.
So, yes, you are alone in your concern. I think we come out and dominate this game on the first few possessions before hitting cruise control pretty early on. We will be playing with a chip on our shoulder in this one...

I mirror your concern. I have since the beginning of the season when Auburn and Troy were the worry dejour. Reason? Simply that it is a road sec game. That's the only reason. Until we get up 3 scores, I'll hold onto that concern.
That's because we havent' been in an SEC stadium not called Davis Wade. We go up 10-14 to zero in the first quarter, yes, the skull dragging should start. I'm wanting to see THIS team go up big and put the dagger in the 3rd quarter so Mullen can put my 4 yr old daughter in to play . The 2000 team was up and down. Time for consistency. We still are in the "learning " mode on how to WIN big and put teams away. ala Troy.
not only that. Phillips wants to keep his job. He was pissed last year. We always seem to meet up with a team whose corch is on the hot seat and losing to us means that he will probably get croomed whereas if they score more points against us than we do against them..he gets to keep his job.
Based on the fact that they have been heavily criticized about their effort and execution in the past two games...as much as any team in MSU history that I can remember being criticized for victories. And that is mild in relation to what Mullen and our coaches have had to say about it in practice. They are going to play with intensity because they want to prove they are better than what they've shown the past 2 games.
Russell will be surgical in this game...and Bump will get our all-time receiving TD record early. Defensively, I look for a much better effort as well. Just my thoughts on it, and I guess we will see early on Saturday.
Also, 11 AM road game @ Commonwealth < 6 PM road game @ Troy as far as playing in a hostile environment goes...
Don't forget were State. We've farked up many games when a "reserve" QB lit us up numerous times. Let's eat KFC early Saturday , then we start talkikng about gang tacklin' Bray.
Burning Uk's "secret weapon" QB they are out for shenanigans. I expect a closer score than I thought earlier in the year. I say 31-20..UK covers. I truly think we have the game in check , but UK scores late to make the score look decent. Perk better do his damdness to impersonate AD . You never played organized football did you? We're not going to have a chip on our shoulder again until October 13th. Probably because it'll be at night and at home. That will be off the charts.

I'm not wary of Kentucky. Damn people we have a good team and its about time we get some confidence as a fan base. I mean 17 it's Kentucky, they are usually a mediocre team who we usually whip and this year they are garbage. Troy would beat that *** in Lexington. I will worry when we don't ***** slap Eddie lacy in he first quarter.

We are going to approach the UK game with intensity as a team, just like we have every season under Mullen. We haven't mailed in any of those games yet. We won't this year.
When you "take the next step" athletically, you do not NEED external factors to motivate you to perform your best. You self-motivate in the pursuit of perfection. That is what I think you start to see out of us against Kentucky. If you are competing against "another team" or "another venue" you are already two steps behind mentally. Competing against yourself in attempt to be "perfect" allows you to minimize external factors affecting your performance. I think this is what we start to see, especially from Russell and our offense.
I just want to see if we're willing, or capable of blowing out any conference team! It's like we want to make it interesting and take our foot off the throttle way too soon. I'm tired playing with this lazy or compassionate mindset. I want our team to see how many points they can get in 60 mins..regardless of score.
When you take the next step athletically, that means you have better players therefore win more games. That's why Alabama comes out flat and still beats WKU and Ole Miss. I'd say they are in tip top shape athletically.
I see the point you're trying to make, and it goes without saying. But you originally said we'd come out with a "chip on our shoulder" IN THIS GAME. I disagreed with that. Any coach will tell you that you can get your team to play with that 'edge' about 4 times per year. The rest is coaching, talent, etc. which encompasses the motivational junk you were talking about. Don't over think this.
We'll likely have a 'chip on our shoulder' vs. Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and Texas A&M. Not at 11 am, on the road, in a quiet stadium, vs. a team that everyone is telling us we should beat.
I said before that we'll come out solid and get a workmanlike win. That's maturity.
I'm not worried about UK because if we can't beat KY even up there then UK is the least of our worries for the rest of the season and we have nowhere near the team we think we do. We comfortably beat a better UK team up there last year with an MSU team that shouldn't be as good as this one.

I am with this guy. Anyone who is worried about this game is forgetting that we are a good team now and that it is no longer the Templecrxxm years. You really don't seem to understand just how bad this Kentucky team is, either. The only team they would have a chance against this year is Arkansas, and their team this year might be worse than our dumpster fire of 2003.
This. Just as our players are learning to win.... we as a fanbase need to do the same. Holding on to the "woe is me" mentality just so you won't be disappointed when a letdown happens is crap. We need to try to develop a winning attitude as a fanbase. Get pissed when you lose... don't make excuses and worries about it beforehand while trying to save possible disappointment.
ETA: I'm not saying we shouldn't have concerns sometimes... but we got to realize when those concerns are actually legitimate. It's a flabloser-esque perspective thing. Glass half full vs. Glass half empty..... Winning vs. Not Losing.... both mean the same thing technically but the perspective you take guides your whole attitude towards it.
