What is a Rebel? The Rebel represents the Only American Army To Ever Lose a War. No, none of this "We lost the Vietnam War" smack ****. Our military left South Vietnam in good order in 1973, and it was when Congress cut off funding to the South Vietnamese government that the Commies invaded and won.

And why did they start this "War of Northern Aggression" or "War to Kick Slaveowner ***"? That's because they were too <17>ing lazy to pick their own cotton. Because they thought it was too hard to actually do their own working for a living, they had to get bitchslapped by the Union...

Which brings me to this: The Rebels' first Opponent......was <font color="#FF0000">A</font><font color="#0000FF">M</font><font color="#FF0000">E</font><font color="#0000FF">R</font><font color="#FF0000">I</font><font color="#0000FF">C</font><font color="#FF0000">A.
<font color="#000000">That's right, they were the original anti-American flagburners, the 19th Century versions of Jane Fonda.</font>
</font><font color="#000000">
And how did they do against this first opponent? That's right, THEY LOST! Calling themselves "The Rebels" is sorta like calling themselves "The Ole Miss Krauts" or "The Ole Miss Japs" or, if they wanted to move into the 21st Century, "The Ole Miss al-Queda".

So, losing is part of their tradition, part of their psyche. It is incumbent upon the MState bulldogs to help the Krauts, err, Japs, errr, al-Queda's, errr, "Rebels" carry on with their traditions.

...and making a comment about the abundance of Ole Miss paraphernalia for sale versus the complete absence of MSU stuff.

The checkout girl, a not-attractive white lady in probably her mid-40's told me in her best southern accent, "It's Pay-tro-tic".

I then left the store, chuckling to myself about those patriotic sons-a-bitches that wanted to secede from America. Patriotism indeed.

I'll take the opposing view.

Do you believe in state's rights? Do you believe that the Federal Government of the United States of America is the end all, be all of policy decisions in your life? If they are why did the founders ever allow state constitutions to exsist? Do you think the President and the Congress have the best interest of your state in mind when they make policy? Would you have felt the way in the late 1800s with no TV, radio or internet? WHen the most powerful person in your life was probably your state's governor?

Contrary to what you may have heard, the entire reason for that war was not slavery.

...the war WAS about slavery. The South seceded because they wanted the States' Rights to own their slaves. When the Missouri Compromise was reached in 1820, it was thought to have contained slavery to within the deep South. However, the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 turned the Missouri Compromise on its ear when it created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska and repealed the MO compromise, making slavery an issue settlers would vote over. What happened was "Bloody Kansas", where pro-Slavery Missourians went into Kansas to vote for slavery, while anti-slavery forces did the same thing. The result was a violent civil war that was more vicious percapita than the actual Civil War.

Oh, and the Confederate Constitution specifically had a proviso in it forbidding the emancipation of slaves by the Congress:
<dl> <dd>No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law denying or impairing the right of property in negro slaves shall be passed [by Congress]</dd> <dd>
If it was all about State's rights, or Trade, then the Midwestern States would've seceded as well. However, because they were anti-slavery States, they stayed and fought for America.

Now, to get back to sports, I know it'd be in our best interests for OM to stomp us, but I hope we kick their collective asses and ruin their season.

Knowing the Rebs, they'll jump out to a 21-0 lead, then take a knee the whole second half.
