Maybe there has or will be position changes, but aren't CJ and Ward both de's? And very talented 5 stars at that. And the rebs are leaders for a very highly regarded Daniel and the #1 player in the nation, both at de. I don't see all four staying at their position if this is so.

I think Conner is headed to Bama. He was leaning that way as of last week any way, and now he has tweeted since the NC game --"after that game on Monday night, it made a big difference." It's also been rumored on the OM sites that COnner is asking ESPN if he can move up his televised announcement day. The Bears are taking that to me his is leaning to them, but I see it exactly the opposite because it is coming right after the NC game-- which seems to have endeared him even more to Bama. If he was leaning to the Bears, why would he want out of the signing day group commitment circus?

You think we have any chance with Conner if we hire Townsend?

Yes. 1) Bama just hired a new secondary coach after the former coach left for FSU. The new coach doesn't have any outstanding credentials. But Bama has a the reputation. 2) TSUN is clearly the leader. But Auburn is making a late push and that means more negative recruiting. 3) With Townsend and Mix in his ear, I believe our chances would grow exponentially by the day, especially if he gets on campus.

Conner is plan b for saban. They kept him from committing (to Mississippi) at the UA game after Vonn Bell moved his announcement back. Bell is who Saban wants, not Conner. But Saban is not willing to let Conner go until he knows he's got Bell wrapped up. And the way Saban has punked Urban's *** in the past, I fully expect Bell to land in Tuscaloosa ... and Conner in oxford.

Throw me a bone, and say it aint so--even if you have to lie! I gotta think Townsend might flip him. The only compelling reason for Connor to want go to OM over Bama is the RK tag team deal, but if Connor commits first...

Townsend makes it a curiosity only. Nothing real. You can go ahead and write Conner off. I sincerely hope we're looking at Townsend because we see something and have heard some things from Zona that demonstrates he's an up and comer. The batesville/delta connection is a factor, but damn sure doesn't need to be a determining factor. We don't need no nutt-like assistant hires.

Conner announcement has been tentatively set for 2/3. That's the only weekend he has yet to set a visit.

On Monday Paul Jones of Bulldawgs247 posted a interview with South Panola’s Deon Mix about what schools he was looking at. In the story Deon mentions his close connection to former South Panola player Kendrick Market and how he respected Market for his college decision.

Kendrick just tells me to make the right choice for me and he knows I’m not somebody that will fold under pressure. And Kendrick is actually one of the few around here that did what he wanted to do. He went to the college he wanted to go to and didn’t go to the college he had to go to. I like that about him.

That is why I liked his commitment so much. The USP kids are probably told from day 1 that they will go to Ole Miss if they are good enough to play on the next level, and it takes a lot for a 17-18 year old kid to go against the "norm" and do what they actually want to do. If we were fortunate enough to hire Townsend, I think it would open doors that previously have not always been open to us.

Do they even have any superstars up and coming in the next few years? Let's face it, Townsend would be a climber, not someone who's going to stick around very long.

With the DBs we are recruiting and that will be visiting, if DT signs and sticks around until to signing day, he will have been worth the drama.

If $cam Newton only stayed in Starkville for one year, would he have been worth it?**

here's what i can read into this deal with townsend joining the staff over smoot. smoot does not have his degree yet, which even if he were to be working on it, he cannot acutally coach and be on contract until he has done so. with townsend, you have a very respectable and known commodity as an NFL star and local celebrity. you get your foot in the door at USP. and even if he is one and done and goes back to the NFL, the positive spin he puts for you is tremendous, and in one year, smoot has his degree and you plug him in, or find another good DB coach.
