So I've been hearing about the Christian music the girls' basketball coach has been tweeting. You know.. subscribe to my twitter and you'll get a Christian song every day. Well now it seems every day during spring practice he is having Christian rock music pumped through the speakers on the fields.

On rebsports radio this morning, David Johnson and Terrance Metcalf were toeing the party lines:

"such a strong Christian influence in young mens' lives"

"have you heard the latest Christian song twitted by our coach? No.. here, we'll play it for you!"

"what parent in this state wouldn't want their son to come to an atmosphere where they hear uplifting, God-centered music as they go through practice every day?"

"In 4 days of practice I haven't heard ONE SINGLE curse word uttered by a coach, player, waterboy or bystander."

"You know.. practices at other schools aren't so spiritually uplifting. Why, the language alone makes the scene R-rated at best! Who wants to be a part of something like that?

I **** you not....... No exaggeration.

This is really how he coaches. Wait till the season starts and you will hear about his epic pregame/halftime speeches when he preaches from scripture and talks about the epic battles in the bible. I thought it was pretty cool in high school but I don't know if its going to work in college.

1. Freeze's passion for his faith and spreading it to others, including his players, is authentic. It's interesting to see y'all besmirch the guy for something that if a State coach were doing it, y'all would just be giddy about it. I don't see how it's that different from the "right way" Mullen stuff y'all got boners about.

2. He's not trying to "out-Christian" everybody. He's doing what he does.

3. While I'm usually put off by people cramming their faith down my throat, that's just how Baptist type folks roll, evangelizing at others. If it results in more players actually getting in line and not being, as you say, 17-offs, fine with me.

It's hilarious that you are mocking the idea of Christianity being a strong influence in young men's lives. This board is like a collection of attitudes of old Republican men who usually would espouse that kind of notion—unless of course it's going on amongst Da Bearz.

I cuss like a sailor and have never had a problem with coaches who cuss, etc. However I seem to recall y'all acting like Orgeron was some kind of turd for being that way. Now y'all are giddy about practice reports where one of your players yells 17 constantly. If that were going on in Oxford, you'd say he was a thug, train going off the rails, whatever.

The basketball coach is playing christian rock music over the loud speaker at football spring practice? Ole Miss has tried everything else why not try god. I personally don't think god gives a rat butt about football because if he did those cheating low life bastards over at Auburn would not win a football game.

Any time somebody shines a light on others who use Christianity for personal, political or financial gain, that person is depicted as not being supportive of others' beliefs.

And since you brought politics into play... This is all very Liberal of Ole Miss (not surprising). Get liquored up beyond all decency in the Grove, but if you think it'll win you a few recruits start piping in Christian music on the practice field.

You would also have to assume that it would equally hurt their recruiting. There will be some Deep South baptist boys who are down for that Bible beater stuff and then there will beguys who don't want to go to Bible camp for 4 to 5 years. Personally, if I went on a recruting trip to a school and they were blaring Christian rock music at practice I would get the hell out of there. Then again I am also a fire breathing satan worshipping Catholic.

However, as a church elder myself, I appreciate someone with authentic, strong beliefs.

I actually see this as him taking a risk by espousing his religion. I sure as 17 wouldn't have gone to a school where I was forced to listen to Christian music every day. I don't see how that's a big recruiting tool. Maybe some mamas like the idea, but ultimately they aren't the ones being recruited.

Y'all were claiming just recently how cool it was that your team was chanting filthy songs in the locker room, and since you also allege everybody knows it's obvious State is the school to sign with, I assume you would think being an upright Christian is not good for recruiting.

I don't think its bad at all. My brother played for Coach Freeze at Briarcrest and had a lot of pretty cool stories about the speeches he would give. Just saying he is not half way about it and only doing things during practice.

Kind of like the hypocrisy of bemoaning how Ole Miss is just a drunk-fest with no values, while your fans drink only iced tea at tailgates, and drug deals in MSU dorms end in hugs, not death.

to play music he likes at his football practice just because people drink alcohol in the town where he's coaching? That makes a lot of sense. I've read he switches up the music. One day it'll be classic rock, the next day contemporary christian, and the next 80's music. The general consensus from people at practice seems to be the music is pretty terrible no matter what day it is though.

Kind of funny the fan base lauding its players cursing and making fun of a coach who doesn't is the same fan base with a board that doesn't allow anyone to type the word.

That's not a baptist thing. It's a christian thing. If you are a christian, that's your sole purpose for being here. However, this is a public university. There's supposed to be a separation of church and state. I am a christian, but I don't think anyone should be pumping christian music through the speakers at a state college football practice.

..Everytime MSU's football fortunes are on the rise & Mississippi's football fortunes are on a downward spiral, Mississippi's football program suddenly becomes a hardcore bastion of Christian glory while MSU's football program is painted as the cradle of atheists, Muslims & Scientologists.

Remember, not many months ago they started this crap by posting a video of MSU's players "acting gangsta" before a football game.

But this crap was at its worse back when they were constantly pimping Cutcliffe as "a great Christian man" while portraying Jackie Sherrill as a degenerate cheater who prayed to Satan.

Lastly, "In 4 days of practice I haven't heard ONE SINGLE curse word uttered by a coach, player, waterboy or bystander" is the biggest bunch of ******** I have ever read in my life.

I get you want to transform your football team into a bunch of Pat Robertson clones, but no need to lie in order to achieve that goal.

By the many here who can dish it but not absorb it. Ole Miss and Oxford have tragic deaths, too, like a few years ago when a track runner was murdered. The back-and-forth absolutes of arguing which town or school is righteous and "does things the right way" is the silliest **** ever.

We do get drunk and do stupid ****. However, our coach is also a cussing scientologist so we're keeping everything on the same level of hedonism.

And Croom turned MSU into a Christian bastion of doing things the right way while Orgeron's era was a bastion of coke-sniffing, wife-beating, atheists, Muslims and Scientologists.

Why, if your "fortunes are on the rise" (three Aig Bawls!), do you get so bent out of shape over our coach having faith in God? Why do you give a ****?

in Mississippi that would love to have a coach essentially advertising "LOOK AT HOW AWESOMELY RELIGIOUS I AM!!!" constantly. I'm not going to judge the coach's motives, but I am eagerly awaiting this thread turning into amateur theologians throwing bible verses at each other justifying their thoughts on the subject.

Each to his own, but that **** would have me gone in a heart beat. I think DS, HD6, Mcdawg22, and I would have all been unhappy if Coach Booth started blaring Christian rock for us at practice back in the day. That may have been the motivator to get their DS and HD6's *** up that hill faster though.

Our school's cultural hypocrisy? Your comment presumes that everyone of a certain group or area is supposed to be the same and not diverse. So, since many people get drunk in the Grove, we're supposed to demand that our diehard Baptist coach has to drink a pint of Jack before practice every day? Or even if he weren't a Christian, the coaches and players are supposed to get hammered like the fans?

You paint Ole Miss with a pretty uni-color brush. You'll find plenty of people in the Grove who don't even drink, just as you'll find people wasted. Why? We aren't all produced in some factory from a mold created by State engineers to be identical frat boys with upturned Polo collars.

See, the fans are the ones there to enjoy themselves and therefore many get drunk. The coach is actually doing a job. So, I'm fine with the "hypocrisy" he heinously exudes by not snorting coke on the practice field.

So you feel the need to bring up a tragic accident that occurred just a few days ago to try to justify TSUN Christian beliefs? You keep standing tall behind your keyboard and stay classy.

I can't imagine there is a very high percentatge of 18 to 22 year old SEC football players who are getting fired up over classic rock, contemporary Christian, or 80's music.

Not what I said. State fans CONSTANTLY stand on a righteous soapbox of being morally superior to the crazed, drunk Bearzzz. Until, of course, they decide to switch tact when their players sing x-rated raps in the locker room and their coach makes fun of the beliefs of the TSUN coach. Now, it's cool in Starkville to grind filthy.

You talk about Freeze allegedly using his religion in a ******** manner as a recruiting tool, while the lot of you switch gears on religion as it suits your current situation, which amounts to your using or not using your righteous moral stance or lack thereof, depending on the situation, as completely phony ********.

That's a mighty illogical, broad stroke you are using there. You definitely don't read this board very often if you think that this is the place to tell ALL of us that we are on moral high ground religiously when it suits our fancy. Now, if you are talking about Gene's page, then you are correct. Sorta like The Spirit vs NAFOOM. They aren't anything alike.
