Not to call anybody out, because I'm fine with it, but I received a private message from a media member about my post regarding the video board and the music/video we use at the games (in a thread from yesterday). They politely asked me to be more constructive with the criticism instead of just saying it sucks, so I thought the board could try and be "constructive" with me, and help develop some solutions (even though they are the ones that get paid to do this, but they ignored that part of my rant) to aid in our audio/video situation.

So, I think we should put together a list of ideas for the pump up video and maybe some music choices, so that I can say that we as a board, were more constructive with our criticisms. Plus, I truly look at this as a way for us to help get it the way we as fans want to be. Obviously, they need our help.

Feel free to throw out some ideas.

I'll start with this....

We could start the pump up video back in the Sherrill days with some good background music and radio calls from the SEC Championship, Egg Bowls that we won...show Sherrill throwing his headset in the air as we kick a game winning field goal, Moulds making a big catch, Smoot making some picks and talking some ****, etc. Then as the music crescendos, jump in to more modern day videos from the Mullen era...show some of our big plays from egg bowls, Mullen chest bumping our big *** linemen, then jump into the hard hits like Heavens wiping out the two guys in the Gator Bowl, Clark wiping out the Ole Miss guy in the egg bowl, Nickoe blowing someone the 17 up, etc... and then as the music is ending let Mullen's voice rise over the music saying "if recruits want to win a Championship, they'll come to MSU" or something like that as the music is ending. Then an explosion into another loud rock song as the team runs out.

I'm no video guy, but someone can put some cool **** together on this board. Let's do it before the Tennessee game bc they are reading this board, trust me.

Apparently

[h=2]Step 1: Hire "GuyBehindTheGuy"[/h]

Guybehindtheguy raped the entire MSU TV department because he did essentially the exact same thing dozens of other people have done making fan videos but because he had access to raw footage apparently his sin is deeper and more complete. So never mind that he has more talent in his little finger than anyone MSU has making videos, he is a pariah because he dared to care enough about MSU to spend his time putting together AMAZING videos. That bastard!

Just the fact that the MSU TV department has sucked for so long and it is due to the same old people who have held us back for so long makes it amazing our "new" leadership can't do anything to fix it. But let's keep the same **** going on and hope for better results, that's the solution!

That sounds cool. I like the idea of lowering the music for a quote and then suddenly pumping the volume back up. We've got some great sound bites from Mullen. Why not use 'em?

Someone's already asked, but what happened to the speakers?

they used to be loud and clear, now they sound like a set of 87 honda civic speakers.

Music is great.....BUT, Stricklin may not have replied for one or both of a couple of reasons....1)Probably didn't get to him since he is not sure who Strickland is OR 2) He thought it sounded like we would be gearing up for some satanic ritual once the singer started whatever that mix of singing/slurring/grunting was.....liable to scare some kids ..and some blue hairs as well.

Seriously! In the North endzone club level (GF's seats) they are completely unintelligible! Everything sounds like the Peanuts teacher talking. From my seats on the West Side it is crystal clear but so loud it feels like the Jumbotron is trying to penetrate my soul. I am getting ear raped every game. I know the whole "if it's too loud you are too old" saying and everything but I shouldn't have to wear ear plugs just to tolerate sitting in the stands. I'm not THAT old....

This. Crank them up. Like when we played Florida in 2009. The players came out in all black to Jay-Z, and I couldn't even hear myself. CRANK IT UP. Especially on stuff like Chuck Smooth.

Well we did play South Alabama for one...

I'm sure everything will be working great when State plays Tennesse at home.

Move the "This is our state" video

We play this video in a terrible spot. After the national anthem, everyone is super loud, the band plays "We're gonna beat the hell outta you..." as they march to get in position for the run out. Then, the stadium goes silent for 2 minutes while that video play and the energy is completely gone. They try to bring the noise level back up with maroon/white and our intro video (that isn't that great his year), but it isn't close to the same.

Figure out a different place to play this video. I like the video, but it is not something that you can play and expect people to get super loud to.

1. You can not understand 1/4 of what is said outside of the commercials(and a few of those aren't great). It wasn't this bad before. It seems in an effort to appease those who said it was too loud we messed with the speakers. I would rather it be too loud and hear what was being said than everyone having to ask what they said.
2. Physics of Football - The audio on this has always been bad. It is a unique segment, but mike them up better or something.
3. Less commercials - more music. How much revenue can Umi's or Sportscenter be bringing in a year? $25K at max? I get we need to make every penny we can, and it is good to have local business advertise and bring in more income as that helps Starkville. But it is better for State if the crowd is involved and pumped. If people leave talking about an Umi's commercial the gameday people have failed at their job.
4. If you can't limit the commercials for the whole game at least limit them in the last 5 minutes of the first half and for sure in the 4th quarter or last 5 minutes of the game. If you did this, I doubt anyone complains as much about the commercials in the 1st quarter. Also be careful with interactive material here. You don't want something people have to be quite to hear. The cheveron car race and hide the egg bowl trophy are good interactive material because it gets people involved, is fun, and keeps everyone yelling thier choice at the screen. The Bankplus thing with the kids is fine for the first quarter, but you don't want to have everyone get quite to listen to something like that with 3 minutes to go. Have a gameplan for a one score SEC game with time winding down.

Pre-game
1. Same as above, you can't understand Mullen when he gives the pre-game speech.
2. I don't hate the dj as much as some, but it there needs to be more game highlights, coach's delivering lines, etc.
3. The Maroon White cheer - We know how to do the cheer. Yelling Maroon and White twice is plenty, we can take it from there.
4. I liked the pre-game video reminding people when to yell and when to ring that we had in the past with someone pointing to the top corner.

I've got a variety of thoughts, although most of them can't be implemented without some work in the studio:
1. Our 3rd home game was the worst offender for institutionally-controlled noise, and it wasn't cowbells. We had the band playing while the opposing center was over the ball, Dawgzillatron playing during the start of plays, Dawgzillatron playing over the band, etc. I'm kind of surprised the SEC didn't fine us, but since it was USA, maybe they don't care.
2. If we had anything to do with the Columbus Orthopedic commercial, redo it for free with recent highlights. 90% of the footage is from 2007. No idea why or how that happened. If they chose all of it themselves, politely suggest their next iteration have more film from the Mullen era.
3. When you have a musical party work on your pre-game video, unless they're nationally famous, restrict their appearance to the side screens on Dawgzillatron and maybe a single shot on the big screen. I've heard more "who is that" questions from the folks around me during DJ Bulldog's (or whoever that guy is) sequences than I have since Tyson Lee was named starting QB. We don't want to see a white guy in a hoodie when we're trying to get excited for the game.
4. The More Cowbell skit is awesome, but it's time to blend it in with some other stuff. The best example of a meshed pre-game vid I've seen is LSU's new Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting. Study it. Learn from it.
5. Gangnam Style. You'll have to cut it off before "sexy" to avoid multiple heart attacks in the stands, but I'd wager a large number of students will even a partial playing.

The maroon and white cheer brought to you by Ford...

I know we can't get out of throwing the Ford name out there. But we need to tell the Wizard of Oz up there to just shut the 17 up after he says the word Ford and let the cheerleaders & crowd take it from there.

My 2 cents......

....which probably isn't worth that.

1) I kind of like the Disc Jockey guy upon further review, but it seems the stadium gets quiet when that part starts. Need to have everybody rocking before that starts. Might just be that we haven't really had an electric crowd yet. Need to do some pump up stuff right before it. Whatever happened to this music remade for 2012?

2) No more All I do is Win. It is played out and I honestly consider it an Auburn song.

3) See the Dawg Pound Rock during the Georgia Tech game in 2009 here. Whatever we did there, it was awesome. Might have just been Dixon though. Of course this worked both ways, Georgia Tech guys even got fired up for this.

4) Arkansas 2010. Probably the most electric atmosphere ever. Didn't hardly have a pregame video. So none of this may matter. Like I've said before, it's just a natural deal. I can't imagine any football atmosphere being more electric than those at Auburn after the Cam news came out. It took alot of drama and winning to lead up to that.

First of all, I’m pretty sure “Strickland” is sixpack appropriate ....

.... (I referred to him as, Your Majesty the Grasshopper, in my email), and second, while I don’t condone satanic rituals, the first 20 seconds or so of that song have serious potential – dub out the words / grunting after that.

I send Strickland and email about The Game by Motorhead as a pregame song. No reply thus far.

Just when I think we have good fans that have a good taste in music...this happens. Stickland, whoever that is, won't email you back because he probably thinks it's a joke.

1. For a hype/entrance video...great ideas on the Sherrill years then transitioning to the Mullen years. No more of this stupid in studio filming stuff, just put highlights from the field on there. As far as music goes, the music that has to be used is going to be some big drums classic rock...see Alabama and their intro song Thunderstruck. Or you can go with some modern hip hop/dubstep remix. I don't necessarily like this music but when it comes to highlight videos of any type, this music is great. It changes tempo and sound a lot which allows for a lot of different scenes to be worked in and it doesn't become boring.
2. The "This is our state" commercial should come before the band is introduced, then go to the hype video for the band, band plays WITHOUT our old fight song.(I can't remember the name) The national anthem is then played and transitions straight in to the football hype video...then in to Chuck Smooth. Also would be great if we could throw in some behind the scenes live footage of the locker room as they walk out like Florida does and how we do in basketball.
3. As far as the video board goes, its first year was awesome! I guess we didn't have a lot of advertising yet so all the terrible commercials weren't being played yet. They had it loud and they used it correctly. Yes, it sounded very clear then. I don't know what happened.
4. The only thing I'll ever give this school credit for is their video productions and that is Auburn, Scott needs to get their video guy over here ASAP. LSU and Georgia's are good too. We need to take notes on how they do it.

For the Intro...

Do something like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51EsfmOO37U

Find a kick *** rock song and put some footage of hits and big plays to it. It would be great if we could find a song that is used every year and unique to us like VT uses "Enter Sandman" and Nebraska uses a song by Allen Parsons Project for every entrance. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica could be cool to use since we use cowbells, and I could see the crowd ringing cowbells in sync to it. Don't use any modern or today's music because that stuff gets old quick. The best choice is to go with a classic hard rock song because classics never get old.

No, I'm talking about every game, not the South Alabama game. And I'm only talking about the volume level of the speakers, not the crowd noise (which of course is greater for home SEC opponents). I guess that wasn't clear enough. The speakers need to be loud enough that the blue hairs complain about it.

DING ^^^ DING. There is nothing wrong with the DJ video and music, but it doesn't sound like you are getting amped up for game. I've been in the stadium when the sound system was turned up playing music with a beat, and it was inspiring. Right now it sounds awful. Not loud enough, no beat, just awful.

Boring video first. Let the band do their thing. Hype it up. Dawg Pound Rock.

And here's a perfect example of a bad *** LSU video, and they debuted this for McNeese Freaking State in 2010.

I do love the "more cowbell" angle. But PLEASE how many more 17 ing decades do i have to watch a far a** Will Ferrell in a too small sweater. It is getting oooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllldddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!! Just the "I gotta fever" if you are gonna do it please... We are already stereotyped (or known) a bunch of fat A**es. This does nothing to help our image. And who gives a 17 what a hotdog taste like!

A while back before "Hail State" became the big phrase, and everyone said "Go State" I came on here and said that "Go State" was the blandest, most boring, generic thing you can hear at a game and that we should throw out Hail State instead. To me it was obvious, and I say this because I feel like it is just an obvious solution for our pre game video/music. Use a timeless pump up song that could be unique for State and make a video out of it. That song is "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica. (Need i point out the bell/cowbell comparison). At the beginning of the song the church bell begins tolling and then a rhythmic intro starts playing along with the tolling bell and they play hand in hand together. Every time the bell tolls in the intro after the music starts play a quick 3 second clip of us knocking someone's head off, scoring a touchdown, hoisting a trophy, etc. and so forth. There are approximately 9 tolls in the intro music, which would have been perfect for the 2011 intro, to flash the score of our 9 wins in 2010 followed by a quick clip of us rolling some poor bastard across the field. It will create quite the atmosphere with everyone ringing their cowbell along with the toll. That song will give you chills and it has Mississippi State written all over it.

Something else really cool is to take a hip hop song and play it to start the fourth quarter that fires up the players and the students. Auburn does this with " All the Above" by Maino and they go crazy. I heard that song for the first time at their stadium and it gave me chills and I despise Auburn but everyone went ape **** and they carried the momentum on to win the game. Find something unique like that and capitalize. Don't use the same song obviously but find the perfect one and you have something. It can make the world of difference.

Great ideas from Charlie Sheen and Hail State...

I used to hear a lot of "Go Dawgs" and "Go State" now there's a growing trend towards "Hail State" I love it. It sounds so much better to me. It seems more traditional and just sounds better and not bland, just like you said. I'd like to see a marketing campaign to get people to say this instead of "Go Dawgs"

"For Whom The Bell Tolls" sounds great to me with a little audio remastering it would be AWESOME. It has a slow lead up to a great song that is a classic and could be used every year along with the bell correlation.

I definitely agree with a song that comes after the third quarter and that is expected, kind of like Wisconsin.
