QB who played there is coach now. Darryl McFadden. No Ships, but they’re extremely competitive. Going in the right direction.
Yes my sister lived right around corner for 35 years. I used to go to few games back when they were really good. Yes,open enrollment will do that. Now sister like v s in Matthews guess I'll go to few Monroe or Myers Park games when she visit her

My understanding is Rocky River opening impacted Independence. For years Independence had one of the highest enrollments in the city so Rocky River did impact that.
I'd say they are really great. They're 2-0 but wins are Carver and North Stokes so hard to judge.
They do not nor has there ever been open enrollment in Meck County.
The lines had been redrawn gradually before Rocky River opened. Example, a few years later Hakeem Nicks would not have been in the Indy district. Devonte Holloman would not have been in the Indy district.
They were completely overhauled with the opening of Rocky River. A lot of Indy's talent came from the Albemarle Road corridor and this shifted from Indy.
Let me rephrase that with choice schools. How does that impact the enrollment at certain schools like Independence?
School choice was used for a period of time where schools were grouped together with three or four high schools in an attendance zone. Students were allowed to go to a school within that zone. The big caveat was that you could not attend a school that was at capacity or if you increased certain demographics. Indy was not open to the school choice plan due to being over max capacity. The highest enrollment there was right at 2,900 students.
Indy had a magnet program for IB but that was moved to East Meck for the 2002-03 school year. I know of two Indy players that were varsity starters that were in the program and one was an Indy district student.
It looks like they still have some form of school choice within zones with each zone having a school that fits one of 11 specialties such as IB or foreign language.
They do. Some of those programs are very popular and have a seat lottery. I am not as in tune with it as I was. 15 years ago I could tell you the zones and what schools had magnets, et al.
The magnets have often been used to boost enrollments and demographics.

It was weird because Butler was my home school but Independence was closer. They redid the line and East Meck was technically my home school but I was closer to Independence and Butler but since I was a rising senior I got to stay at Butler. This was 2002-2003 time frame.
Appreciate you correcting my intial comment. Learned something new at least.
School zones always get someone. I mean there are kids that pass Mount Airy HS everyday to get to North Surry granted those are 2 school systems but the same county.
Still sounds to me like they go where they want. My sister lived near Idelwild school,her son of course went to Indy. Neighbor across street went to E. Meck.
At one time the neighborhood behind Idlewild Elementary went to Indy. It then shifted to East Meck. Note my statement above regarding Hakeem Nicks. Fairly sure it is now East. At one time the Indy district covered Albemarle Road and went up Harris Blvd. It was huge but much less density.
