Insane flooding in Recife prior to USA game

Fans are having to abandon their cars and walk 17 miles to try and get to the stadium by kickoff. No indication that the game will be delayed, but they would have to delay the Ghana/Portugal game as well.

In other news, Ghana had to ship $3M cash to its players this week to avoid a strike and they just sent Kevin Prince Boatang and Sunni Muntari home. I think Muntari was already out for the Portugal game due to yellow cards.

I think I gained 20 pounds there.

The food was great. I liked the city for the most part, but I didn't really venture far from Boa Viagem and a little north of that. I did make it up to Olinda for a Saturday - that's a fun day trip if you like old buildings.

I didn't retain a bit of Portuguese outside of a few basic phrases. I kept trying to pronounce words as if were Spanish. Awful idea.

Forgot to mention that Recife means "reef".** Props to Olinda. A lot nicer city than Recife.

Portunõl as the locals call it is nothing to be ashamed of.**
