From TWGB,

SEC RE-ENFORCES INSTITUTIONALLY CONTROLLED SOUND

This week, all SEC schools received a memo from the conference office that re-enforces the league's limitations on institutionally controlled computerized sound during football games. We made mention of this a couple of weeks ago in this column, and have taken steps to make sure that we are in compliance.

Essentially, the policy allows schools to play music or sound through its audio and video systems only during specified times during the game. Those elements may be used during pre-game, at halftime, and in post-game, after scoring plays, and during timeouts on the field.

Additionally, school bands, or any component thereof, may not play once the offensive team breaks the huddle until the play is whistled dead.

It is important to remember that this policy, like any other rule, of the Southeastern Conference was voted on and approved by the athletic directors in the league.

I have already asked Commissioner Slive if this policy could be revisited at a future time for reconsideration. We feel that full use of the video board and audio system enhance the atmosphere at our football games, and we hope that most other schools in the league feel the same way.

Well, the SEC had a good chance to say something about cowbells, and they said nothing. Good.

And GB is pushing a back on the rules against "institutionally controlled sound". Awesomeness. Contrast that with LT who probably would have been a co-sponsor of the rule like that.

I just read that a few minutes ago. Good stuff by Byrne to try and talk with Slive.
I thought they were going to attack the cowbell somewhere in there but glad it got left out. I wouldn't be shocked if the SEC has the refs ready to throw penalties at us this weekend for cowbells. The way some of these refs have been this season, protecting the higher ranked team with ******** penalties, it would be fitting with our luck.

I'm pretty sure they cannot do that anymore as a result of a recently adopted NCAA rule. All they can do is fine us.

when the band goes out for halftime. Good thinking, but this is illegal now. I think this is all Byrne is pushing for.

I read somewhere a while back where a ref or someone representing a ref said they were only enforcing NCAA rules. He specifically said they would not enforce a conference-specific rule.

They've been putting out "institutionally controlled sound" over their loudspeakers during huddles, etc., for many years. We have been THIS season, but it won't be breaking a long-standing tradition for us to stop.

I heard a rumor years ago that Tenn put microphones through out the stadium and run the sound through the sound system to double the crowd noise. Don't know if it is true.
