The obvious question to me that this article raises is whether or not Sanderson was a student. If so, god bless his soul, but HOW and WHY in the HELL did we let this thug into our university? Shouldn't there have been some red flags in the background check? What am I missing here?
How does any of that "rationalize the actions of the perps?" In case you missed it, he also gave the criminal histories of the perps. And it's definitely pertinent to understanding what type of crime we're dealing with here. It's one thing to have an innocent student murdered out of the blue on campus, it's another to have criminal with a long history being killed in a drug deal gone wrong.
? Yea, I assume we would do background checks. I also want to point out that when someone like this graduates from MSU it degrades every single one of our degrees. I am all for troubled people being given a second chance, but for many reasons, if we want to take the next step as a university then we have limit People like this from ever getting on campus in the first place, much less as students.
The only thing that degrades a degree from a university is lowered academic standards both for entry and for completion of degree requirements.
One guy getting shot doesn't make the entire university an unsavory place - that's just crazy.
How long would you hold someone's mistakes against them? If he served his sentence, he should be allowed to attend university as long as he meets the requirements.

because I doubt if it is even legal for any public university in the country to do backgrounds checks. We certainly don't do it and I would be shocked if anyone else does. We also don't do random drug tests of students. We also tore down that fence around campus that was apparently here when (if) you were here.
