It's part of why I wasn't too hard on Lebby last year or this year, although I still think someone's head needed to roll for Toledo. Our conference schedule has been absolutely brutal.

That begs the question:

Has "our conference schedule been absolutely brutal" due to the fact we are worse than the other teams because of what we do to ourselves, or, are the other teams better than us because of what they do right for themselves, two totally different scenarios?

I think the easy answer is we have self inflicted our recent woes by a series of woeful decisions by several different entities i.e. administration AND coaching in both baseball and football. And don't blame it all on Mike Leach dying and say we would have been 10-3 the next two seasons blah blah blah because you don't know that, you may want to believe it but you don't know. We have to deal w/ reality and that is we made stupid decisions (self inflicted) as a result of him dying that have snowballed into our current 5-21 conference record in the last 3 and a half seasons w/ games coming up against this weeks #'s 5, 9, 16, and 21 conference teams. That also goes for baseball too by delaying Lemonis firing for 2 1/2 seasons after finishing last in '22 and next to last in '23 and letting it drag on until 3/4 way through last season before admitting how bad he had gotten.

It remains to be seen how long it will take to recover from the football and baseball blunders, AND basketball is now on deck. The women have tanked since Vic left and both women and the men are picked 10 out of 16 w/ injuries already starting before the first tip for the men.........................

Hard to play what if games, but it's a fact we played 1/3 of the CFP field last year. That's not because of anything self-inflicted. When these four teams weren't playing us, they were playing 11 other teams on their schedules......so it may just be they were really good teams.

And I think Tennessee and A&M are pretty dang good this year too. Our fans kinda melted down about the A&M loss (on the road, too) and they’re ranked number 4 and probably about to start 7-0.

Our schedule is set by the SEC, nothing we did has anything to do with that. Look at the easy schedules OM got, that's 💯 the SEC pre-shitting on us. But yes, John Cohen was as retarded an AD as has touched this campus and Leach didn't recruit SEC athletes, especially on the lines of scrimmage.

I think most of the melting is related to the OL. I know….we have been dinged up there with injuries but even when healthy they are a weak link.

Yeah. A lot if where we are is self inflicted. But those SEC schedules the last 2 years are just insanely difficult. And Floridas schedules aren’t much, if any, better. And then schools like Missouri & Mississippi got cupcakes. SEC did a terrible job of scheduling.

And injuries aren’t an excuse to begin with. It’s a violent game. Injuries aren’t the exception. They’re expected. Everyone has injuries to players they were counting on.

Ole Miss definitely has an easy schedule. But this vast SEC conspiracy against State is stupid. When they make these schedules, they're not going to know how shltty Kentucky or Arkansas is going to be, or how mediocre Oklahoma is, or whatever.

We have a tough schedule but when you suck, everyone on your schedule is tough.

Its easy to judge from hindsight. Its not fair though.

Let's take the Lemonis case. You think we should have fired him sooner.
Lets say we do.
Do we get O'conner?
Do we get anyone any better considering we had a short leash for a coach who went 114-37 (40-20) in his first 3 season with a college world series appearance and OUR FIRST NATTY EVER.

Lets take Lebby for example.
Half this board wanted him gone last year. In hindsight that would have been a terrible idea.

HIRING COACHES IS HARD AS 17.

Injuries aren't the exception but we are always going to have a few positions where an injury will 17 us hard. Just reality. We had a weak OL and trouble recruiting a better one both because everybody wants OL in the portal and because the cluster 17 on the field probably didn't put us high on anybody's wish list. It appeared we had made a pretty good jump before injuries. Still not great, but enough improvement to generate some confidence in Lebby's ability to turn it around, which I don't think many people had after last year.

We couldn't afford any OL injuries this year and we had two. Lebby is at fault for us being in that position, but there has to be some recognition that it's year two and even in the portal era, while it's possible to build a good OL in one year, it's still not the norm.

I still haven't completely forgiven Levee for that, it wasn't just a loss, we got blown out at home in a rare night name by a terrible team.

Beating ASU was redemption, had we held on and beat Tenn, I'd had completely moved on.

Nah i already found enough of you saying 3-9 and 2-10.

I'm sure you pulled a goat in the preseason prediction thread. #bipolar
I said 3 was very possible. And realistically, we’re 1 play away from sitting on 3 wins and underdogs in every game left. So yeah, it was possible. But my prediction was always 4 wins. And that documented.

A&M is a sleeping giant if they can figure out how to get out of their own way. They seem to have found a good fit with Elko. They've always had the talent & huge money, they just needed the right coach. Time will tell, but they look like a really good team this year.
