Says Chris Jones now #2 DT. I think that provides quite a bit of insight into Nick James and Quay's status at least for our game against OSU.

Not surprising. Evans and James are not the match-up you want going against this team. Speed and stamina.

Don't like this at ALL. I don't want to see Jones' speed wasted on the inside.
Calm yourself. Remember that guy Fletcher Cox? He played both and could easily play either in the NFL (although DE would require him to change his body type a little). Eulls plays both currently at a pretty good level. If he truly is 6'7" ~280lbs why in the hell would you not at least give him reps at DT? Especially against a banged up OL. Autry is the veteran 5* pass rusher and having 3 pass rushing beasts on the field together all of a different body type would be A-W-E-S-O-M-E. I just don't see where you'd get much value from James or Evans against a high flying 70+ play plus team. That's where we got roasted against A&M.

I truly believe there's some kind of "get your **** together" thing going on behind closed doors with Evans and James anyway.

I've really been watching Chris throughout these open practices. He's like Hunter Renfroe was a "5 tool" player. He can be a stand-up 3-4 OLB (Alden Smith), a traditional 4-3 DE, but the one that I saw was a 3 tech DT. He SO explosive in that gap it's stupid. I love the move!

They are in the same boat in the fact that both are in the dog house but they

are there for different reasons. Nick got into trouble with the books this summer due to some personal problems that have been rectified recently. His suspension or what ever you want to call it is supposedly game to game as a disciplinary measure. Quay just needs to grow up and get a better attitude, he has good days and he has bad days but he has progressed. To say Turner is hyper pissed and growing impatient with both of them would be an understatement.

I'll believe James (or Evans for that matter) personal problems have been rectified when I start to see some evidence of it. We knew both were off-field questions when we signed them. If we can get 1 of them to live up to the hype, we'll be doing good. Which is what I've been saying since we signed them.

Didn't mean to imply that Nick's problems were rectified as a whole just the one

issue that got him behind academically has been resolved. I agree with what you are saying. I think both of these games came in and thought they would roll through the process and be starters with great success their entire carriers and then start cashing big NFL checks. Well guess what, this **** is hard and you better have the mental focus, discipline, and toughness or you aren't gonna make it. I hope the light turns on.

Everything I'm being told makes me believe Quay's future at MSU is a little brighter than James'.

Spot on. Nick is game to game suspension. Quay is just a lazy ***. I know the general consensus of coach34 here, but he was right on the money when he tweeted at Mullen to let Quay talk to Dontae Walker. Now that he has his **** together he could provide some insight of what not to do at MSU.

James getting kicked off his high school team should have told us something. Appears we took a gamble on him and it isn't working out.

Some people

just don't have the discipline to be successful. Apparently, these two clowns don't. Hopefully something will set off a trigger that will allow them to finally get it, but it's not looking like it.

Exactly. When a high school coach kicks the best player he will ever coach in his career off the team (or even suspends him), it's definitely not a good sign.

I wouldn't call it a gamble. With our recruiting prowess... it would be stupid to not sign a guy with his physical potential. We're losing one scholarship. If he gets his act together, we have a beast of a DT. If he doesn't, he likely quits or gets kicked off and that scholarship it freed up again.

I'd say he's much less of a gamble than a 2-star that you know will have to redshirt, then take up space on the roster while being nothing more than a special teams player or 3rd string backup for 3-4 years.

Definitely a major red flag when neither completed their SR season with their HS football team.

So, you're saying Dan Mullen signed a bunch of 4 and 5* prima donnas that won't ever contribute significantly on the field because they can't cut it off the field.

So much for nothing but good, hard-working, down to earth grinders.

Only about 80% of composite 4*s that come to MSU have thusfar ended up in the NFL under Mullen...Damn those MSU primadonnas**

I'm still waiting on one of you to swoop in and bet us that neither of them ever see the field. Oh, wait**

It's a gamble you have to take especially in Ms. 5 star or 2 star the truth is you just never know who pans out but you can't turn those 4 and 5 star guys away.
