Looking at the recruiting class rankings over the last four years. Do stars matter? Some, yeah, but not really.

Here you go...

Team #1's last four recruiting class ranks : #3 (2009), #2 (2010), #5 (2011), an d #3 (2012). Finished las t season 8-5 and unranked. Coach fired.

Team #2's last four: #15 , #9 , #13 , #1 6. Finished last season 5-7, unranked. Next-to-last in division.

Team #3's last four: #17 , #30, #31, #41 . Finished last season 13-1, ranked #3 in final AP poll

Team #4's last four: #12, #24, #20, #19. Finished last season 11-2, ranked #4 in final AP poll.

Team #5's last four: #40, #21, #48, #31. Finished last season 12-2, ranked #5 in final AP poll.

Team #6's last four: #55, #39, #46, #45. Finished last season 11-2, ranked #13 in final AP poll.

So that's Texas, Tennessee, Michigan State, South Carolina, Missouri, and Baylor in order.

It's not only who you get, it's what you do with them.

Where is our resident statistics wiz so that we can settle this? It's been a long time since my college stats days so I don't remember the exact test that needs to be done, but there should be a simple way to load up minitab with the last 10 years of recruiting rankings and final rankings, then review the p-value or some other ******** to determine whether there is scientifically a direct correlation or not.

Interesting.

So that's Texas, Tennessee, Michigan State, South Carolina, Missouri, and Baylor in that order.

If I were to guess, that would also be the exact ranking of the fan count of paid website subscriptions, from most to least.

And all of these numbers would be just as useful if we multiplied them by zero.

Lol. Or close to the same in athletic budgets. They do seem to go hand in hand. I will say that good high school talent can't overcome bad coaching or talent that doesn't really fit or buy into your program.

Well you gotta also look at what division they played in, the competition and injuries, ect. To get a real comparison. But I feel as long as your somewhere in the 30's down you should be good

And Portland State has more players in the Super Bowl than Bama, Auburn, Ohio State and Oklahoma combined. So obviously you have a better chance making the super bowl by going to Portland State.

That is some serious cherry picking of the data

Have there been teams that recruit well and performed poorly. Heck yeah. That is how coaches get fired.

Have there been some teams that have not recruited well and and performed well. Yeah, that is how coaches get bigger jobs.

You are pulling out special cases and trying to make it mean something that it does not.

Selective cases to be sure. Most teams in the top 25 have good classes. It's better to be on the right side of the rankings than the bad side.

His overall message,

that subjectively awarded recruiting stars are the end all be all, still holds a great deal of water.
