Interesting quote from Chris Jones.....

Jones said he didn't finalize his decision until signing day, switching back to the Bulldogs at the last minute.
"Up until then, I was planning on going to Ole Miss," Jones said. "That's where I was going, but my dad talked me into going to Mississippi State. It was really close, but I'm glad I chose State. It's what was best for me."

Interesting it was his dad who changed his mind. I thought we'd heard the whole time that his dad was pro-Ole Miss.

Ol Freeze throwing out the "hate card" again. Not surprising from the reverend.

Great article. I sure hate hearing that Jones nearly went to OM. He made the right decision.

So Freeze rides around the state dropping glossy 8x10s of himself in people's mailboxes? Lord have mercy.

Freeze is one of the most pious people I've ever seen

What a surprise he mentions all the "hate" in the rivalry. Ole Miss is a program of love. Didn't you see that when they were getting SIX personal foul penalties against Memphis? And him riding around with a stack of pictures of himself that he puts in people's mailboxes sounds really strange and pretty narcissistic.

I don't know what to make of Jones' comments. I guess freeze is such a recruiting dynamo with a great personality that nothing should surprise us.

A preacher obsessing about love vs. hate? This all seems familiar somehow...

According to Coach34, Jones is lying. Remember, he was our "secret weapon" sent to Ole Miss undercover to dig up recruiting dirt on the Bears that we are holding until the opportunity presents itself to release that information and destroy the Bears program. Jones is a very good double agent. Of all the crazy recruiting stories I've heard, that was the most ludicrous. I'm laughing now just remembering it.

Hey Hugh....

"It is against the law to place anything in a mailbox that is not mail with paid postage attached to it, such as fliers and brochures. This fineable offense does not, however apply to door slots and nonlockable bins or troughs used with apartment house mailboxes."

About the MS schools being contenders in the West for a while? I thought

that was a good article for the state, apparently no one here agrees.

I was just about to mention that this blows a pretty big hole in Coach's whole "strategically planted mole" story. Now I guess we just have to ourselves whether we should trust Chris Jones or Coach34

It's like Passover. But instead of lambs blood on your door you just hang an Ole Miss flag and you get a free signed pic of Freezus in your mailbox.

Freeze is breaking federal law. He needs to be reported

Going to really suck for the Bears to have their coach get locked up...

There's more to the story*

By all means, explain. Do you mean that when Jones says it was a tough decision and he came close to choosing Ole Miss (which he has said in multiple interviews), that he's not telling the truth? Just asking because I'm legitimately curious. I don't follow recruiting beyond what's posted here & on Nafoom, but there sure seem to be a lot of people who know more about the Chris Jones recruitment that Chris Jones, and the "real story" has changed so many times that it's hard to keep track of the "real story." Or, you may be talking about something else entirely, in which case, carry on.

Someone needs to stack out our recruits mailboxes this year and catch the Rev in the act.. Where is Gene when we need him?

Hey Arlo, no doubt he was headed to Ole Miss the night before. How he got to

that point and what happened to reverse his position are a couple of more chapters in the book. It was crazy.

I always hear the "more to the story" business about recruits and what goes on and double-secret whispering and rumors and all that yet nobody ever just 17ing says what they know! It's like a bunch of middle school girls.

Note: my first use of 17 on the board. Gotta admit, feels good, feels real good.

So if you know something, spill it.

I am guessing it goes along the lines of we were going to give momma job x for this amount of money, but State gave Daddy job y for more money?

You guys broke me from discussing recruiting stories a few months back. I was

told by someone I trust that he was headed to Ole Miss around 10:30pm the night before signing day, I'm not going to discuss any of the details shared with me some of which may or may not be true. Hell, it may not be true that he was headed to Ole Miss but I was just confirming to Arlo what I was told.

I thought it was a great article for the state also, very positive and the quotes from everyone from William Winter to Chris Jones where spot on. Of course we get hung up on the Chris Jones part..... I'm not. This weekend and next are HUGE for Mississippi. I hope we capitalize on the spotlight.

For some reason that wouldn't surprise me. When I think of UMiss fans and recruiting this comes to mind:

Well I really don't know what to make out some of what Chris says in this story. I do know that he wants everyone (OM folks included) to like him. I will just say one thing though, and anyone who was around after Chris signed should agree with this, if Momma Jones had ACTUALLY wanted Chris at OM that is exactly where he would be, end of story.

He didn't "relinquish" it. Even trade for a mound of cold chicken tenders, a chandelier and some red pants...

The free goodies he got while in oxford were so good he still feels a little guilty for taking so much and leading them on in order to get more. he was always going to State. He just says that to make the givers of oxford goodies not feel so bad on how he played them.
